Middle School Sports - Football Mom Gets 'Schooled' By Son

By BusinessLife, published on Nov 3, 2010

It had come to this moment. My 13 year-old son, Jordan was dressed in a football uniform and ready to take the field. The only problem was, would one of the coaches call his name? It had been a long football season already. In fact, there was only one more game left to play after today.

As I sat in the stands outside my son's middle school, I scanned the sidelines on the other side to find my son. The middle school only had bleachers on one side. The visiting team was in front of the bleachers and in front of all of the moms, dads, sisters, brothers, grandparents, cousins, neighbors... (more)

College Football Picks Week 11

By Deborah Horton, published on Nov 13, 2010

...State at No. 12 Alabama - Alabama

No. 23 South Carolina at No. 22 Florida - South Carolina in the "alleged" upset

No. 1 Oregon at California - Oregon

No. 6 Stanford at Arizona State - Standford

No. 10 Oklahoma State at Texas - Oklahoma State

USC at No. 18 Arizona - ArizonaNo. 21 Nevada at Fresno State - Nevada

With all of Auburn's off the field distractions, Georgia might have a chance in this game. I do think South Carolina bets Florida. Other than that, I don't see many upsets this weekend - but you never know - it is college football 2010!

Football vs. um..Football

By TheGuysPerspective, published on Nov 24, 2009

Every Sunday THE GUYS gear up for a day of bone crunching hits, dazzling moves, clutch plays, irate coaches and crazed fans. Yes, we like our football as much as the rest of this country does. It’s absolutely become America’s pastime, supplanting baseball long ago as the sport we obsess over. Football used to be just for men, but that’s changed. Men and women plan parties around the weekly Sunday lineup.

We know some women who actually like the games (we love that), but even the women that don’t care, seem to enjoy watching their husbands or boyfriends revert back to little boys, screaming... (more)

Super Bowl XLII: By A Dude Who Does Not Watch Football.

By Brain, published on Feb 4, 2008

...cliché anyway, just incase.) And it appears that Mike Gravel, a man who proudly waved the freak flag in the face of the rest of his Democratic opponents, and my personal favorite candidate, does not appear to be on the ballot in my home state, let alone planet Earth. But back to football.

I don’t even watch football regularly myself, I had only showed up (as I do every year) for the beer and football team themed foods (Philedelphia Eagles Cheese Steaks, New England Patriots Clam Chowder, Dallas Cowboys Sloppy Joes, even in the food selection the Giants... (more)

Bill Walsh, Football Hall of Famer, Dies

By rjlight, published on Jul 30, 2007

...leukemia since 2004, Bill Walsh, former San Francisco 49ers General Manager and Stanford coach, passed away today at 75 years of age. Bill Walsh brought the 49ers to three Super Bowl victories, making the 49ers the “team of the 80's.” Bill Walsh changed the offensive game of football and was even nicknamed the "genius"—a title he never denied. According to John Madden, the nickname was well deserved. Bill Walsh was able to bring the offensive game to a new level -- perfecting the passing game. At a time when coaches would run the ball at and eventually pass, Walsh... (more)

The Passing of Joe Paterno

By Bessie Jewel, published on Jan 28, 2012

Of course to his family, "I'm sorry", is the appropriate response. Beyond that, nothing else really works.

I will confess that I am not a football fan and I have no feelings one way or another for Penn State. I don't recall hearing Joe Paterno's name until the scandal involving his assistant coach came into the news and most everyone knows that sordid story. There's plenty of agony to go around and it's all pretty disturbing.

But another disturbing aspect is the amount of openly conflicted feelings that seem to surround the late coach. I have to wonder if the students, the faculty,... (more)
