Youth Soccer Remembered
I was impressed by the turnout. There had to be at least a hundred parents jammed into the elementary school cafeteria on a rainy Sunday afternoon trying to get their kids signed up for soccer. No one even played soccer when I was growing up. We played football in the fall.
Not that I have anything against soccer, although, truth be told, I don’t really understand all of the rules. I’d been meaning to learn.
“We’re short one assistant coach for the 7-8-year olds,” said the league president, spying over the top... (more)

The Blond Wonder
As an American, I am in a small, but growing minority. I love soccer [known to the rest of the world as football]. My favorite professional sports team is Barcelona FC. This alone, would put me in a very small group as I live in Pittsburgh, PA. As most know, this town has a couple of beloved franchises. For me, however, soccer is truly the beautiful game. Never is it genuinely more so that when it is played by teams of skilled, committed young women.
On Sunday, 10 July 2011, the current USA Women's Team showed the country and much of the world just how beautiful the game can be.... (more)
