Comedy Stays in the Family

By Ed Attanasio, published on Jan 5, 2011

It’s a family affair when it comes to doing standup comedy in the Applebaum’s household. Jeff and his son Josh, 14, will be hitting the stage at Paws for Laughter on January 15th at Fort Mason Center’s Southside Theater to raise money for SF’s Rocket Dog Rescue.

Jeff Applebaum is a New York native who has finally figured out how to speak English after living in California for 19 years, he explained. Jeff’s 100% clean comedy act revolves around his unique life experiences, including being the only white kid on his Little League team in Queens, having a Chinese wife who orders from take-out... (more)

Family.

By -YumnaU., published on Mar 7, 2011

How a person becomes a piece of your puzzled heart.

Without which you're left torn apart.

A part of your family, happiness.

A day without whom seems incomplete.

God help you to achieve all your goals.

Cause a soul like you deserves so much more.

I never knew I'd love someone who entered a stranger,

but became like a lost but meant to be our brother.

Dedicated to my Nayel bhai (meaning brother), I love you more than I can ever write\say\express. You know me well enough to know I'd rarely say it to your face.

And I'm gonna miss you... (more)

Role of the Family During an Intervention

By Iam Herbert, published on Aug 31, 2011

...and so a lot more is necessary to prevent the feelings from resurfacing. The voluntary narcotic use gradually will become an unconscious demand, occasionally an overwhelming need to the exclusion of almost all else.Addiction to drinking or drugs takes a toll to the person and also on their own family members. As soon as an individual has got an all-consuming dependence on alcohol or drugs, it will become their own passion and focus and everything else takes second place. The actual abuser’s life's more planned around their drinking or drug use. This may cause losing employment, close... (more)

How to Find the Correct Dog for You & Your Family

By Ed Attanasio, published on Sep 22, 2011

... recognized by the American Kennel Club.

2.) When you’re looking at breeds, keep the following factors in mind:

-The size of your house and yard. (If you only have a patio or a small apartment, you don’t want to consider a large dog for obvious reasons.

-The size of your family. (Some dogs all fine with children while some don’t do as well with children.)

-Your budget. (Vet bills, dog accessories and food aren’t cheap. Pure breeds are more expensive and adopting or rescuing dogs is a great low-cost move. Please it’s a karma thing, because you’ll feel... (more)

Family Dinners

By evidentlyblog, published on Nov 9, 2011

Back when I was 9 or 10, I can remember dinners out with the Japanese side of the family. We always met up in the banquet rooms of Chinese restaurants. You might be asking why would Japanese people do this and I have no idea. I liked Chinese food at that time so I didn't complain. (Now I find it too greasy, salty and "sauced," but I digress.) We met up with my many great-aunts and uncles, 1st and 2nd cousins and occasionally my grandpa and grandma (if they were in town) to talk, drink tea and eat lots of Chow Mein.

My younger brother and I were usually the only children present... (more)

Military Family Life - Tip # 53

By While You Were Away, published on Nov 10, 2011

...or differences when all put together. A fun way to mark these is by keeping a daily log. It doesn't have to be more than a sentence a day - it can just be a couple of words to tell about something that happened, didn't happen, made your mouth drop open, made you cry or laugh. When your family member returns you can help to fill in the gaps and trigger your own memories using the log.

Tips:

* Create a couple of sentence starters (If you were here you would have ..., I wish you could have seen _________ today..., You would have laughed so hard ... (more)

Perhaps you've seen it, driving on the California interstate 134, or buses. The advertisement reads "Triumph over Cancer."

Leaving a Judicial Footprint: California Family Law

By Rushgal, published on Mar 31, 2010

Most Americans are likely effected to some degree by family law, whether personally or through a friend, and probably unaware of the Elkin's Family Law Task Force. I recently addressed the Elkin's Family Law Task Force, a group appointed by the California Judicial Council to review family law proceedings and recommend proposals that will increase access to justice, ensure due process, and provide for more effective and consistent rules, policies, and procedures. Conducted in the formal Judicial Council Conference Room, it was intimidating. Nervous and limited to three minutes, my voice was... (more)

Climbing the Family Tree

By Jon Hosier, published on Aug 17, 2010

This is one man's story.

I took this project on partly out of curiosity and partly to leave a monument to my family and the kin to come. I did not know how it was going to go. I started off the same way any of you would. Ancestry.com or Genealogy.com and FamilyTreeMaker.com; I used them all. The next thing you know I have some basic crappy information of family members I already knew and a sizeable dent in my debit account. My faith in the project’s success had been momentarily derailed.

I started to wonder if searching public records could yield a more promising result. The... (more)
