By Jennifer Stone, published on May 8, 2012

...going for a coffee and heroin is on the menu? That is what Kings Cross has become a menu of drugs from where the cocaine or ice castles exist. Within a day of hitting the streets in Kings Cross you have some idea about the drug trade it is that obvious. I Am Sorry - a National Apology in Australia

By V, published on Feb 12, 2008

While this could be seen as lacking in relevance to Broowaha readers, I beg to differ. We are after all, citizens of the world. So too, Americans and Australians alike are currently living in times of serious change and I believe, living in an atmosphere of hope.

On the 3rd of December, 2007 Australia changed government. Our 25th and second longest serving  Prime Minister, the Liberal Party’s John Howard was succeeded by Labor’s Kevin Rudd after 11 years of service. For 11 years, this minion of George Bush has succeeded at stripping my country of most things I believed in.  It was not... (more)

Memo to critics of Augusta National: mind your own business

By bazzabear, published on Apr 18, 2012

...back in 1934. We should be grateful they stage the Masters, not critical of them for no good reason, least of all for their attitudes to female membership.

Over my 56 years in the golf writing business I've been a member of ten golf clubs around the world, from Bermuda to Britain to Australia, so I believe I speak with authority on the subject.

Here's the crux: With each acceptance I signed a membership agreement that included my promise to abide by and honour the constitution of the club. Implicit in this, I agreed that I wouldn't campaign to change the club's rules on a... (more)

Saving the planet one soul at a time

...ecological system, factors such as predation tends to keep population below the maximum carrying capacity provided by the physical environment. Dramatic exceptions occur when species are introduced in areas where they have no natural predators, and their numbers explode. Think cane toads in Australia.

As human beings have no natural predators other than themselves, their numbers have historically been limited by the carrying capacity of the land, war and disease. Advancements in technology have greatly increased carrying capacity and decreased the impact of disease, and so numbers... (more)

... MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

The Interview

What inspired you to write your first book?

I started out writing nonfiction travel stories as I traveled around the world in my twenties. I read The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron while traveling across Australia and wrote in big letters at the close of the book, “I WILL WRITE A NOVEL.” That was 13 years ago. I’m inspired to write because I see storytelling as a compelling mode to engage people in big ideas. My hope is that everyone who reads my work will think about how they can find their... (more)

Legalise the Drugs and Crime will halve

By Jennifer Stone, published on Apr 30, 2012

...unsolved murders and disappearances within Kings Cross. One of those Juanita may be hidden with in this building in Kings Cross where the alleged asking for money that was asked for ranged from $10000, to $2500 a week to $100000.00. Brothels are a legal business where I come from in Sydney Australia, well this brothel is legal. The asking for Protection money to open this business has been endless, some call it extortion others promote it as an advertising cost. In Australia we have had many Royal Commissions pushing for the unveiling of the hidden black market and how it is being... (more)

...for a pro-reform camp, in his speech he advised: "Our commission found that in countries where drug addiction was decriminalised and regarded as a public health problem, there were decreases in crime, decreases in the number of addicts, and improvements in overall public health."

Like Australia many countries like Portugal have decriminalized the use and passion of drugs since 2001. By setting up clinics where heroin users have access to needles and methadone along with treatment for addiction. Portugal has reduced the users especially amoung the young people.

...world to hold rallies in front of China’s embassies and consulates on May 11 to protest its recent aggressive encroachments on the Philippines’ Scarborough Shoal.

Her call quickly drew positive responses from an initial batch of Filipino groups in Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada and Australia.

China considers the Scarborough Shoal, located 124 nautical miles from the Philippines’ Zambales province, to be its “inherent territory” even though it lies more than 500 nautical miles from the nearest China port of Hainan.
