5 Home Remedies for Anal Itching

Despite being common among most people, anal itching or pruritus ani is a topic that is rarely discussed. As such, most of them end up suffering in silence due to the lack of treatment knowledge. Hence, bear in mind that although this problem can be an embarrassing subject matter to hold whether, with people close to you or your doctor, it is treatable. There are different products for itchy anus relief such as Pranicura that will make you feel more comfortable. Also, if you don’t trust any medical creams, you can treat yourself in the comfort of your home by using the following home remedies:

1. Garlic

Known for its antiseptic, antifungal and antibacterial properties, garlic makes up an ideal remedy for treating any anal itching-causing infection. It cannot only treat anal itching but also gets rid of intestinal worms, a popular cause of the issue.

Since garlic can work when ingested, it is recommended that you consume 2-3 cloves of raw garlic, particularly on an empty stomach. Ensure that you do this each day for a whole week. Alternatively, you can opt to boil two garlic cloves (crushed) in a half cup of milk and take it on an empty stomach for a week.

2. Epsom Salt

Epsom salt boasts the ability to treat various skin conditions including eczema and psoriasis, which can cause anal itching. Also, using this salt helps to relieve the burning sensation or irritation associated with anal itching.

Take a full bath by adding one or two cups of epsom salt into a bathtub full of warm water before soaking your body in it for 15 to 20 minutes. You can also add two or three tablespoons of the salt into a sitz bath, a small plastic tub, with warm water before dipping your anus into it to relieve the irritation. Repeat this process two or three times a week.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is an ideal home remedy for controlling fungal and yeast infections. To achieve the desired effects, ensure that you mix two tablespoons of vinegar (in its raw and unfiltered form) in a glass of water, twice a day. The alternative entails adding a single cup of Apple cider vinegar into a hot bath and then soaking yourself in it for 15-20 minutes. Repeat this process for several days until the irritation reduces.

4. Coconut Oil

Thanks to its antimicrobial, antifungal and antibacterial properties, coconut oil is one of the preferred home remedies for treating anal itching. What’s more, it can aid in getting rid of intestinal worms. To achieve this purpose, you can rub some coconut oil directly on the affected part several times a day to minimize the burning sensation and eliminate the irritation. Otherwise, you can consume two to three tablespoons of extra-virgin coconut oil each day or use it for cooking.

5. Stay away from Food Allergens

In the course of bowel movement, some foods can cause anal itching while others that can increase itchiness and inflammation. They include alcoholic beverages, soda, tea, chocolate, and coffee. Also, keep spicy foods like peppers and citrus fruits including oranges, grapes, and lemons at bay until the itchiness subsides. Stay away from such foods for at least two weeks before reintroducing them into your diet, one at a time.

Using any or several of the above home remedies will save you from the embarrassing trip to the hospital where another person may have to examine your anus. Nevertheless, it is advisable to consult your physician in case the situation worsens or if the above options do not work in your favor.
