Biodiesel Is An Environmentally Friendly Fuel

by Editor (editor), , December 12, 2017

With a little bit of equipment and technical skill, you can upgrade any diesel burner to biodiesel.

Have you heard about the amazing power of biodiesel? This technological wonder is a renewable, powerful, and clean-burning fuel. The properties of biodiesel are quite simple. A chemical reaction turns organic fat into consumable fuel. Straight vegetable oil can be used; waste oil can be used as well. Could you imagine pulling up to a fast-food restaurant and filling up your vehicle? With a little bit of equipment and technical skill, you can upgrade any diesel burner to biodiesel.

Biodiesel can power anything from passenger buses to generators. Most diesel engines can run on biofuel with no mechanical fix! The chemical properties make biodiesel biodegradable and nontoxic as well. The energy content of biodiesel is nearly equal to that of petroleum-based fuel. If you run any sort of agricultural equipment, biodiesel is perfect for you. As all-natural fuel is easily acquired, filling your tank with it will save you money in the long run.

Most biodiesel is produced from waste oil, but clean corn oil is used as well. This product is quite popular in Europe for its environmental benefits; you can do your part for the planet in the United States as well. Even one engine moving away from petroleum is a benefit for our earth!

If you’re looking to experiment with biodiesel, you can set up the system by yourself. A bit of technical knowledge and basic tools are all that’s required. Find a source of waste vegetable oil from a local restaurant, add in some methanol, and with a bit of sodium hydroxide you’ve got biodiesel. You’ll have to do some simple filtration after the main process. Biodiesel is a project that helps not only the environment but your bank account as well!

If that all sounds like a bit much, you can easily get biodiesel in bulk from a local provider. Biodiesel providers are managed by scientists and engineers. They’ll be able to set you up with purchasing, storage, and mechanical help. Buying in bulk is by far the best solution and you should plan on setting up a storage vessel. A 250-gallon tank is a good start if you plan on using your biodiesel for a vehicle. If you’re just looking to power small equipment like generators or auxillary lighting, a smaller tank will be sufficient.

When storing or moving your biodiesel it’s important to use good quality rubber hose. Choose a rubber hose that won’t crack or fray. Tubes with perforated metal mesh are the best idea when dealing with fuel. The flexible metal core prevents punctures and accidents from occuring. A spill is not only costly, it’s terribly frustrating to clean up.

The facts are clear: biodiesel is an efficient, clean fuel. If you’re looking to make the switch, upgrade your fuel to biodiesel. Find a local provider, support the local economy, and do your part to help the planet. As your motor rolls along the farm or the highway, you’ll be so glad you did.
