Why The Necessity Of Cell Phones Poses Challenges For Some

by Editor (editor), , September 14, 2017

For some people, the necessity of a cell phone can pose all sorts of problems.

Cell phones. Chances are pretty good you know exactly where your cell phone is right now. In fact, you might even be holding it in your hand as you are reading this. Truthfully, the advancements of mobile technology have changed our lives. The convenience of a cell phone makes it easy to do all sorts of things.

The problem with cell phones becoming more of a necessity than a luxury is not everyone knows how to use them with ease. For some people, the necessity of a cell phone can pose all sorts of problems.

What Kind of People Struggle?

Whether you are a senior citizen, you have poor vision, you are hard of hearing, or you just hate flashy technology, cell phones – and especially smart phones – can be frustrating.

For example, you live in a world where most of your utility providers have set up automated phone systems intended to make paying bills more convenient. You call into the phone system, follow the prompts, and pay your bill by phone. For someone who struggles with using a cell phone, following the prompts to pay your bill can be impossible. You find yourself squinting to see the numbers on the screen and struggling to hear what the creepy automated voice on the phone said. Before you know it, you hit the wrong key or say the wrong word and the system hangs up on you. Sound familiar?

If you can relate to the above scenario, there’s a solution to your problem. The solution is recognizing the fact that there are lots of different cell phones on the market and they are usually designed with an intended audience. The Jitterbug, for example, is a type of cell phone that was designed for seniors. This type of phone includes features such as a "yes" and "no" button, a clear display with big numbers, and an ear piece speaker.

By purchasing a phone that was designed specifically for you, you can finally live in a world where phones are required without feeling so frustrated. No one should have to struggle to pay a utility bill.

Why Do You Need a Usable Phone?

Now, there’s a chance you have poked a few holes in the utility bill scenario. After all, there are a lot of different ways to pay a utility bill. Instead of arguing with the automated system, you could just mail in a check or pay the bill in person. The convenience of paying bills is far from the only good reason for having a cell phone.

Alarm Clock/Organizer: Statistically, 60 percent of individuals between the ages of 16 and 34 use their cell phones as their main time piece. In addition to telling you what the time and date is, your cell phone can be an alarm clock and you can use it as an organizer.

GPS: Just about every cell phone on the market comes equipped with GPS these days. With a usable cell phone in hand, you never have to worry about getting lost.

Entertainment: Have you ever tried taking a toddler to a doctor’s appointment? Cell phones offer media streaming options as well as video games. These can make keeping a toddler entertained while sitting in a waiting room a lot less stressful. Why spend the next 20-30 minutes chasing your child or grandchild around the waiting room when you can stream their favorite show on your phone instead?

Lifeline: Whether you are a senior, a single parent, or anyone in between, a cell phone is a lifeline to the outside world. In the event of an emergency, a cell phone is how you call for help. It is how you stay connected to the world. At the very least, you can use it to stay in touch with friends and family members.

Cell phones can be frustrating if you don’t take the time to purchase one that fits you and your needs. Fortunately, there is a cell phone on the market for just about everyone. With a little browsing, you should be able to find the right phone for you.
