Three charitable footballers with real star quality

An event that’s aimed at football fans could be a brilliant way for your small charity to rake in the cash - the draw of any celebrity can boost attendance at an event, but for people crazy about a specific team or player, footballers can have an extra draw. There’s no-one quite as dedicated as a football fan - they’d have to be to stand on the terraces all through the winter months, often being bitterly disappointed week after week!

A personal appearance at a charity event could boost your coffers in more than one way too - in addition to boosting ticket sales, you could also allow fans to pay for the opportunity to take a photo, get an autograph or even sit on the same table as your celebrity footballer of choice - allowing you to really make the most of the income generation opportunities that an event affords.

We’ve chosen three footballers from MN2S booking agency who’ve spent their time on charity work since retiring from the beautiful game - check out our picks.

Kenny Dalglish

There are few more legendary footballers than Kenny Dalglish, and he makes a perfect addition to any event, function or sports award dinner you may be planning. Born in Glasgow, Kenny had a successful career spanning 22 years during which he played for Celtic and Liverpool, as well as Scotland. He is Scotland’s most capped player of all time, turning out 102 times for the side, and scoring more than any other player in the side’s history with a total of 30 goals.

Dalglish won many awards in his time including the illustrious Ballon d'Or Silver Award in 1983 and is often regarded as the greatest striker in post-war British football. Patron of his own cancer charity, The Marina Dalglish Appeal, Kenny gives over a lot of his time to charitable causes.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Over his career Hasselbaink played for some of the world’s best and biggest football teams and is a revered football talent. Now spending his time inspiring audiences with his engaging and insightful speeches, Jimmy remains a true legend for fans. He was a professional player for a total of 18 season and scored an incredible 245 goals in that time for his various sides.

The player was breaking records almost from day one when he was signed for Atlético Madrid in 2000, costing a princely £15 million - but the star rewarded that investment by averaging almost one goal every two games over the next four years. Since retiring from the beautiful game, Hasselbaink has often taken part in charity events and appearances.

Andy Cole

Andy Cole was born in Nottingham, but it was at Manchester United and Newcastle that he became best known as a player. In addition to becoming a staple of the England football team during the 90s and 00s, Cole also managed to score the rare accolade of having collected all possible honours from the modern game.

After a trip to Zimbabwe the striker set up his own charity helping children orphaned by AIDs in the country, and since retirement he continues to work as a public speaker at charity and corporate events around the UK.
