I located this endearing story by accident. Right here in San Francisco, there’s a third-grader named Andy Finch. People are calling him a curling phenomenon and a future star. He’s won six state and regional tournaments in his age group and he’s already training for the 2018 Winter Olympics. His parents Amy and Alan Finch are very proud of their son and more than happy to help Andy in his pursuit for gold and fame.

"Andy is a curler, plain and simple," Alan Finch said. "We let him try all the sports and it came down to either NASCAR or curling. Since he doesn't have his drivers license,... Read More

The San Francisco Giants will celebrate the tenth anniversary of their first game at AT&T Park on April 9th versus the Atlanta Braves.

Wow, it’s already been ten years since this ballpark opened and it has seen a World Series, a plethora of home run records courtesy of Barry Bonds, an All-Star Game, a no-hitter, and two consecutive Cy Young seasons courtesy of Tim Lincecum.

It’s been a great decade for Pacific Bell Park (named until 2003), SBC Park (until 2005), and finally AT&T Park, as it was renamed on March 3, 2006. The AT&T is always in the top rankings when... Read More

More and more people are tired of living in California. Folks don’t want to live in a broke state full of high prices, foreclosures and layoffs. And sports fans in the formerly Golden State are also a disgruntled bunch, because the teams we’re watching are mostly terrible.

I should say first that the L.A. Lakers, L.A. Kings, the San Diego Chargers, the Anaheim Ducks, the San Jose Sharks and the S.F. Giants probably don’t belong in this discussion…for now. The Lakers are the reigning NBA Champs and could repeat this year. The team has an incredible track record and the organization has... Read More

THE FIRST POINT...Why Steven Waye criticizes Marshall's benching

I’ll say this for Josh McDaniels: when he was named head coach of the Denver Broncos this offseason after Bronco Collapse v1.0, he inherited a Kiddie Corral full of immature, unruly players. Jay Cutler’s public foot-stamping upon hearing his name discussed in trade talks... Read More

THE FIRST POINT...Why Steven Waye commends Coach Caldwell

It’s all on you, Jim Caldwell.

The thing about making tough decisions is that if you’re right, no one’s going to thank you for them until it’s safe. And if you’re wrong, the critics can’t wait to say, “I told you so,” feeling smug for holding an opinion that cost them nothing,... Read More

When Philadelphia 76ers owner Peter Luukko extended a one-year, non-guaranteed offer to the week-long retiree Allen Iverson, he called the move an "absolutely, strictly a basketball decision." If the use of such adamant adverbs in succession did not already give you sense that Luukko was compensating for something, please allow me to translate his overly emphatic remarks: this move is 'absolutely, strictly a publicity stunt.'

To his credit, Luukko did succeed in suddenly swinging the NBA's media spotlight onto his subpar franchise. But it does not take a sports-entertainment mogul to... Read More

As the world knows by now Tiger Woods crashed his Cadillac suv into a fire hydrant and a neighbor's tree while backing out of his drive way at 2:00am on Thanksgiving evening.

Which one the following do you think he was up to?

A. Getting a jump start on Black Friday shopping sales?

B. Running from his five iron wielding wife?

C. Going to get milk for the baby?

D. Dropping off the baby sitter?

E. Going to interview a new baby sitter?

F. None or all of the above?

Something doesn't make sense when you are driving an SUV, going less than 30... Read More
