All pretense at cuteness is gone in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, a spellbinding drama that's edgier than the previous Harry Potter movies. The book itself is one of the more difficult Harry Potter novels to follow, with all of the character's backstories being further fleshed out in order to set up the final act we're all sure is coming -- the ultimate one on one showdown between Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. However screenwriter Michael Goldenberg's first crack at the series sheds all but the very essential plot points, focusing on Harry and his best friends as they prepare... Read More

Most of us got to know Will Smith first as a light-hearted rapper and wildly talented comedic actor thanks to his hit records like "Parents Just Don't Understand" and "Summertime" as well as the TV show "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" He then moved smoothly and effortlessly into high action movies like the two "Bad Boys" as well as "Independence Day" the "Men In Black" movies and "I, Robot." Will Smith quickly proved himself to be one of the most likeable and charming actors of our time. Even when he's in a turkey like "Wild Wild West" or "Hitch" he never fails to deliver a solid performance full... Read More

The Plot: A new supernatural thriller starring Sarah Michelle Gellar (The Grudge, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Joanna Mills, a tough young Midwesterner determined to learn the truth behind the increasingly terrifying supernatural visions that have been haunting her.

Joanna has made a successful career for herself, as sales representative for a trucking company. But her private life has been difficult. Estranged from her father (Sam Shepard), stalked by an obsessed ex-boyfriend (Adam Scott), and with few friends, Joanna fears that she is losing control.

She sees and feels the... Read More

Michael Moore's new documentary has the tagline "This may hurt a little," which is an understatement. Sicko -- which opened in limited theaters on June 29th, is both shocking and enlightening. Sicko deals with the failures of the American healthcare systems head-on like most of Moore's films. Uncanny to a Moore documentary, Sicko is unbiased as he can be without convincing his audience to stand behind the position he stands firmly behind. The documentary begins with Moore garnering sympathy from his viewers with real life causalities and sick Americans. Doug Noe whose insurance provider,... Read More

"The Blues Brothers" is one of those movies that I wish to God I had written. When I first saw it in a theatre during it's original theatrical run I laughed so hard I nearly gave myself a hernia. And the concluding car chase is a classic. In fact, most of what happens in that movie is a classic.

I only wish that BLUES BROTHERS 2000 had been a worthy sequel to that movie. There's a whole lot in this movie I like but there's a whole lot that's wrong with it as well and the major thing is that there's no John Belushi. And The Blues Brothers without John Belushi is like' well; it's like... Read More

Shrek the Third, Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End --have we seen all the sequels yet? Oh no, we've just started. Ocean's 13 is in its first week and we still have Fantastic Four 2, Live Free or Die Hard, The Bourne Ultimatum and Rush Hour 3. I don't think I can possibly name all of the sequels, but I guess I better not forget another installment of Harry Potter with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix releasing in July. And the end of the year we can anticipate National Treasure's sequel. It would seem it's the year of the sequel, but what about all those horror... Read More

I'm sure that many of you, like me, damn near laughed yourself into a hernia upon hearing that Sylvester Stallone was going to make yet another "Rocky"movie. After I had my sore ribs taped and calmed down, I thought about it a little more. And I found that I really couldn't blame Stallone. Here's a guy who sincerely worked his ass off to step out and try other roles and expand his range as an actor. I confess that I thought "Oscar" was hilarious and he should have gotten one for "Copland". Unfortunately the public got burned one too many times by stinkers such as "Judge Dredd", "Assassins"...
