Life is an uphill hike, and if you think of the exercise as "good for you", you won't quit until you reach the top.
I like to meditate each day; usually about how and why bad things happen. What is a bad thing and when does it become good, or visa versa? When, how and why do good relationships turn sour?
I've been hiking these hills nearly four years. Every year its the same cycle of death and rebirth. What is lush and green slowly decays into something dry, beige and brittle. Soon enough, lightning strikes, winds blow, the stormy times arrive. Finally, the space that death... Read More
How common is a backache, or how many folks claim back injury.
As an urgent care nurse, the number of backaches as a chief complaint was stifling and a daily episode in our urgent care center.
The Doctors, Who merely did a pee test to rule out kidney involvement, a neurological exam to rule out disc involvement and ended up prescribing Ibuprofen in large doses till the back pain miraculously, hopefully disappeared on its own or the ibuprofen caused a gastric bleed, seemed helpless when it came to this epidemic yet too often dismissed ailment.
Well, it took... Read More
There was a time when a salon was a niche place where only the upper strata of the society would go to pamper their body and enhance their looks. Well that was a bygone era, these days we have spas and salons in every nook and corner; be it shopping malls or a local beauty salon everyone is offering spa services. But are these services actually benefiting you or damaging your body. The word Spa conjures up images of different types of massages, body wraps and baths. An ideal spa is supposed to work on soothing those fray nerves, releasing toxins from not just your body but also from your mind... Read More
That was the title of a magazine that caught my eye the other day while I was at the convenience store. Since when have we started looking at weight as this ongoing battle? Well, I suppose I know the answer to that. When we were young we were taught about this war that women undergo as they get older. “If I eat that, it will go straight to my hips,” my mother used to say. I’ve seen her get up at 4am and do kickboxing, or Pilates, or yoga for years. I myself started my own war a few years ago when I gained weight after a semi-horrible break up with my own (why the hell was I ever with him) ex.... Read More
There are a few reasons why diets don’t offer a permanent solution to weight loss. The most obvious one is that diets don’t reflect the way people will continue to eat the rest of their lives. It’s just not reasonable. Once the diet is over, people revert to their previous eating habits and any progress made during the diet period is usually lost. Diets also slow your metabolism because your body has to adjust to a lower calorie intake, they cause cravings, and also invoke fear. No one wants to give up their favorite foods.
Diets take time, energy, and willpower to carry out, while going... Read More
Apparently the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies have finally taken notice of the 15% of people who deal with IBS on a daily basis.
The condition is characterized by abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, and pain in the bowels. Often, people with IBS fluctuate between having loose bowels (diarrhea), or becoming extremely constipated.
Prescription medications are often recommended for this condition, yet an easy way to combat and possibly entirely eliminate IBS symptoms is through changing your diet and using detox methods to help regulate your... Read More
Even better than treating your mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, or whomever else you call “Mom” to a fancy meal at her favorite restaurant is preparing it yourself. In place of or in addition to your favorite Mother’s Day traditions, a home-cooked, organic meal is a sentiment that she surely won’t forget this year.
Maybe your mom is not the detox pro that you are, or maybe she’s a health nut too. Either way, pampering her with a meal that is healthy and tastes delicious will surely impress any mom. After all, wasn’t she the one who always told you to eat your vegetables?
You know... Read More
