School Time VerbsThese words made my eyes roll into the back of my skull in public education: noun, verb, adjective, adverb, pronoun, etc. In fact, they still numb my mind, and as an English professor I avoid them as much as possible. They turn language into a perverse form of mathematics. Grammar turns students off.In school we get so caught up in identifying subjects and verbs that we forget the language, the beauty and power of unique sentences. Worksheet after worksheet in school made mundane work of language.

Wikipedia recently declined an offer that would have cost them little if any money to use software that prevents minors and unsuspecting web users from seeing sexually explicit images on Wikipedia. Pages that contain these images are by far the most popular pages on Wikipedia's servers. This behavour or failure to act comes almost 2 years after FoxNews exposed the site and questioned Wikipedia and Wikipedia Commons about displaying these images. It is also over 2.5 years after the sites' Co-founder Larry Sanger said that the parent company of Wikipedia is knowingly distributing child porn... Read More

After writing a blog for over six years and being on Facebook for five, you start to consider yourself a connoisseur of user generated/social media--especially being able to distinguish between what is “within the norm” versus “cringe-worthy.” I have learned from bloggers before me that obscurity is a protection from ridicule until the moment it’s not--in other words, once you are found to be interesting in either a good or bad way, you’re anonymity can be erased by one well-followed tweet or blog entry with a hyperlink. Bolder bloggers than I have fallen upon their own words and found this... Read More
I am a regular internet forum user and i can honestly say trolling has become a major problem. Many people no longer use sites such as Yahoo Answers and some forums due to the unwanted responses from so called "trolls". I myself do not know why such silly idiotic pastimes are seen as funny. Though trolling is an immature pointless activity it is becoming increasingly popular and is further developing into greater and more sophisticated forms. Trolling is destructive and degrading to the creative and intellectual thought... Read More
