Improving your health is something that should always be on your mind, regardless of your age, because it’s never too early or too late to damage your body. And the more you continue to damage it, the shorter your healthy life is. So if you want to make that change for 2020, here are 7 ways to improve your health this year.

Incorporate More Fitness In Your Life

Fitness is the main part of getting yourself in shape and feeling good in your bod. Think about what fitness you’re doing at the moment and what you could do to elevate that fitness even more. If you’re not working out, then it’s important to start fitting in some daily exercise, no matter how small. Even twenty minutes a day is enough to get the heart pumping and to start burning those calories. Consider exercise or sports that you love watching like the 2019 NBA and find that same passion and love in whatever fitness you choose to do in your routine. It might be joining the gym and getting a personal trainer to help motivate you, or it could be going down to the local tennis courts and playing with friends or family members. Whatever it is, make sure you’re doing plenty of it so that you are feeling good within yourself, and it’s helping all your organs work at their best all the time.


Find Exercise That Brings You Joy

Exercise that brings you joy is going to be the best fitness for you because instead of hating every moment, you’ll actually have fun. Now fun and exercise aren’t two words that some people will put together, but those people have yet to find something they truly enjoy doing. It might take some time to find that joy, and there may be some trial and error in the process. Give something you’ve never done a try and see how you get on. You may surprise yourself by what you like and what you’re good at that you didn’t even know about. This can also be helpful if you’re living in a household that you’re trying to encourage to get fit too because when they’re seeing someone practicing what they’re encouraging, it can help motivate them to get fit too.


Get More Sleep

Sleep is imperative for your body, and we’ve all probably experienced that feeling of not having enough sleep. That sick feeling isn’t a good sign, and the more you’re depriving your body of sleep, the more you put it in danger of falling ill. Your body needs sleep in order to recover and to repair itself from the day’s events. It helps to re-energize you for the following day, and when you’re trying to work at 100%, but your body is only at fifty, then it’s going to really do some damage. Try to make this year about getting more sleep and not feeling guilty for it. You might work very long hours in and outside of work that others might not see, so it’s good to get as many hours in as possible when you have a chance. Try to avoid afternoon naps as they can disrupt your sleep pattern. Having around nine hours of sleep is the perfect amount, even if to some, that seems like too much sleep. Your body needs it in order to continue supporting your organs and everything you do on a daily basis.

Make sure you set an environment at nighttime that will help you get off to sleep quickly, rather than tossing and turning in your bed. This might be wearing an eye mask so that you’re not disrupted by any light and playing gentle music to rock you off to sleep. Try different things to see which work the best for you.


Socialize More For Your Mental Health

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. If you’re not looking after your mind, then it’s going to impact your mental wellbeing. So don’t sacrifice your social lifefor work or anything that stops you from enjoying time with loved ones. This is important not only for your friendships but also to help improve your mental wellbeing and making sure you talk about everything to do with how you’re feeling.

The work-life balance is something you want to get right sooner rather than later. We all have our careers, and whether we enjoy them or not, it’s good to get the right balance of work and enjoyment in life. Too much of one can impact the other and can also affect your health in a number of ways. If you find yourself working too hard, then it might be worth speaking to your manager about easing up on some of the pressures that come with it. Try to figure out what needs to change in order for you to be happier, have more energy, and most importantly, living your life to the full. You don’t want to work tirelessly and then get to an age where you can’t enjoy life and go traveling. Make sure you do all of this and more while you’re in your prime and working.

Food is definitely one area that many of us will often indulge in, and although it’s fine to have those naughty foods, you need to remember to eat in moderation. Make healthier choices when it comes to your food, but most importantly, balance all the bad foods with good. Combine that with exercise, and you’ll feel a lot better for it. Don’t overeat as it’s not necessary!

Happiness is the best form of medicine, and often enough, we forget to enjoy the little things in life. We also often tend to criticize ourselves more than give praise, so stress less about life and smile more!
