Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer Movie Review

By DLFerguson, published on Jun 18, 2007

The Fantastic Four are among the coolest and most heroic characters ever created in any medium. A family of scientific thrill seekers granted with astounding superpowers due to an unauthorized space flight gone wrong. Bathed in cosmic rays they return to Earth as more than human. Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic finds his body now as elastic and fluid as his brilliant intellect. Susan Storm/The Invisible Woman can make herself and others invisible as well as being able to psionically generate unshatterable force fields. Johnny Storm/The Human Storm can turn his body into living flame, burning... (more)

Robocop: Movie Review

By DLFerguson, published on Jun 11, 2007

Even if Peter Weller and Paul Verhoeven had never made any movies after they made ROBOCOP they would be assured of a place in Movie Heaven solely on the strength of this one movie alone. Peter Weller went on to make “Buckaroo Banzai” which is his masterpiece and is one of The 25 Movies I Want To Be Buried With. He also starred in “Naked Lunch” which in the words of Nelson Muntz is neither about being naked or about lunch. But it’s still one hell of a head-trip movie that you don’t have to get stoned to watch and you’ll still feel like you’re in an altered state of mind. Paul... (more)

Next: Movie Review

By DLFerguson, published on Jun 6, 2007

One question folks like to ask me is this golden oldie: “Have you ever seen a movie so bad that you walked out on it?” And I’ve always answered: “No.” And don’t think that I stay to watch a movie all the way through out of some principal that I should stay to the end of a movie so that if I trash it later on I can do it fairly. I stay because I’ve paid my money and I’m not getting up until I’ve seen what I’ve paid for. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of movies I’ve wished I’d walked out on. I could give you a list in two minutes flat of 25 movies I wished... (more)

ROCKY BALBOA: Movie Review

By DLFerguson, published on Jun 4, 2007

I'm sure that many of you, like me, damn near laughed yourself into a hernia upon hearing that Sylvester Stallone was going to make yet another "Rocky"movie. After I had my sore ribs taped and calmed down, I thought about it a little more. And I found that I really couldn't blame Stallone. Here's a guy who sincerely worked his ass off to step out and try other roles and expand his range as an actor. I confess that I thought "Oscar" was hilarious and he should have gotten one for "Copland". Unfortunately the public got burned one too many times by stinkers such as "Judge Dredd", "Assassins"... (more)

Valdez Is Coming: Movie Review

By DLFerguson, published on May 30, 2007

When you hear the name Elmore Leonard you’ll probably think of “Get Shorty” and “Be Cool” as he wrote the novels those highly popular movies were based on. In fact, Elmore Leonard really bounced into popularity during the 70’s and 80’s with a bunch of very successful crime novels. His novel “Rum Punch” was filmed as one of my favorite movies of all time: “Jackie Brown” which starred the only woman I would consider leaving my wife for: Pam Grier and was directed by Quentin Tarentino. But Elmore Leonard got his start writing western novels. One of them was “Hombre”... (more)

Spider Man 3: Movie Review

By DLFerguson, published on May 24, 2007

The SPIDER-MAN movies taken as a whole gets a thumbs up from me for one thing: the same cast and director hung in there for three movies. If nothing else, having the same actors and directors give the movies a unifying feel that you can’t get from watching the “Batman” or “Superman” movies. Taken individually…well, I got a whole other opinion there. I thought that “Spider-Man” was just as good as say, ‘Superman: The Movie” “Batman” or “Batman Begins” but I was bored with “Spider-Man 2” and even more so with SPIDER-MAN 3. The problems with SPIDER-MAN 3 are some... (more)
