Rooney Set to Reject China Move

by herbertp343 (writer), , April 11, 2017

Rooney is set to turn down such an opportunity at this point, with a move away from Old Trafford remaining a distinct possibility in the betting odds come the end of the season.

Despite having only just become Manchester United’s all-time record goal scorer, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton’s 249 goals with a goal against Stoke City, Wayne Rooney’s future remains firmly up in the air. The former Everton youngster has fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho this season, with many suggesting that the United and England skipper could move to the Chinese Super League during the current transfer window. However, Rooney is set to turn down such an opportunity at this point, with a move away from Old Trafford remaining a distinct possibility in the betting odds come the end of the season.

With a whole host of clubs in the East of Asia prepared to pay massive amounts in order to bring the superstar to China, it is believed that Rooney’s time in England could well be up, with a move to the American MLS also touted. Former Chelsea boss Felipe Scolari’s Guangzhou Evergrande are thought to have put aside around $900,000 per week to attract the forward, with Rooney having had to settle for a place on the bench at Old Trafford for the majority of the campaign.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovi?, having dominated proceedings since his arrival in England, with the Swede helping United to win the EFL Cup with two goals in the final, as well as the latter stages of the Europa League so far this season, Rooney has just five goals in all competitions to date.Online bookies Betway have installed United at just 6/1 in the betting odds (Odds from March 28th), to add the Europa League title to their EFL Cup win, which would see the club return to the Champions League for next season.

Rooney has 18 months left on his Manchester United contract, with the club seemingly unlikely to take up the option of extending it by another year. Chinese Super League clubs are able to have a maximum of three foreign players within their starting line-ups, with their transfer window running until the end of February.Tianjin Quanjian, Jiangsu Suning and Beijing Guoan are among the favourites for the player’s signature, however other clubs could come into the mix if they choose to drop one of their current overseas talents. Former club Everton may well be on the look out for a new striker should Romelu Lukaku depart Goodison Park, with Rooney thought to be keen on a return to his boyhood club. West Ham United are another Premier League side reportedly in the hunt for the England Captain’s services, although uncertainty regarding manager Slaven Bilic’s future could play a big part in their plans.

The striker has been linked with moves away from Old Trafford at certain points during his career at Old Trafford, with Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea the most concrete. Despite reportedly having handed in written transfer requests under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2010 and 2013, Rooney has recovered to once again write his name into the record books at Old Trafford. However, having won five Premier League titles, an FA Cup and Champions League winners medals, the time now appears to be up on his time in England.

Rooney could well find himself back in the starting eleven this weekend, with United missing up to seven first-team stars due to injury and suspension. Both Ibrahimovi? and Ander Herrera miss out due to previous red cards, while the world’s most expensive footballer, Paul Pogba, as well as England duo Phil Jones and Chris Smalling all in danger of missing out. United’s ability to finish within the top four of the Premier League is now within their own hands, with Betway offering Mourinho’s men at 2/1 on March 28th to overcome the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal come the end of the campaign.

Although the club are still in contention in three cup competitions, with United currently sitting in sixth in the Premier League table, Mourinho is understandably keen to bring in high-class reinforcements for next season. Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann and Benfica defender Victor Lindelof two potential targets, with Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe the latest name linked with a move to Old Trafford, in what would potentially break the world record transfer fee. Despite having only recently turned 18, the French international has set both Ligue 1 and the Champions League alight this season, with the attacker putting in fine displays in Monaco’s recent Champions League victory over United’s fierce rivals Manchester City. It is set to be a huge summer at Old Trafford, with Rooney one of a number of player’s fearing for their futures, along with the likes of Luke Shaw, Michael Carrick and Ashley Young.
