*Tues,Oct 23,2007 "ENVIRONMENTAL JOURNALIST BILL MCKIBBEN on the LINKS BETWEEN GLOBAL WARMING & the CALIFORNIA WILD FIRES" What does global warming have to do with the fires ranging in southern California? "This is the kind of disaster we see more and more of as we begin to change the basic physics and chemistry of the planet we live on," says McKibben, who is organizing the Nov. 3 Step It Up National Day of Climate Action. McKibben,leading environmentalist and one of the leading forces behind Step It Up. In 1989, he wrote the book “The End of Nature”, one of the first books to describe global warming as an emerging environmental crisis. His latest book is “Deep Economy: the Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future.” Related Links: StepItUp2007 FIRE UPDATE- More than 500,000 people in San Diego County have been ordered to evacuate. Over 900 homes have already been destroyed. At least one person has died in the fires. Another 37 people have been reported injured including 17 firefighters. The fires extend from the Mexican border to Santa Barbara. The most devastating fires were in San Diego County. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency."

*Tues,Oct 23rd,2007 "60 ARRESTED AT NO WAR NO WARMING PROTESTS IN WASHINGTON" "Hundreds of people converged on the U.S. Capitol Building to protest the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Bush administration's record on climate change. No War, No Warming was the theme of a day of civil disobedience in Washington, DC on Monday. At least sixty-one people were arrested after some blocked a street near the Cannon House Office Building. Some of the protesters were in polar bear costumes. Before the arrests, independent journalist Robin Bell of Bell Visuals caught the polar bears' arrival at the Capitol building. The musical voices of the polar bear protesters, among the hundreds who took part in the No War, No Warming day of action in Washington on Monday. I know I'm supposed to be interested in this kind of stuff. I try. I really do try. Buuuuuut, I so love those gossip articles! "Impeach Bush, it's the American thing to do." I'll write my representatives about that as soon as I finish reading all the latest gossips stories in Broowaha.

To the Stealth Anons and El G who may very well be one and the same due to syntax similarity who have been attacking RM's articles: You both suck and blow way over the line. You're abusive rather than constructive. Please reread what's at the top of every Add a comment: "Please express criticism in courteous, temperate and constructive terms." You don't like it, don't read it. Others of us do like it and do read it. 90% of us are now Progressives. WE are the New Moral Majority. Get over it. Better yet, get with it.
