Sexy for Baby

by Stephanie Michele (writer), Venice, October 10, 2006

As I stood in front of my closet this morning trying to figure out what I should wear for the day, I over heard Diane Sawyer on the TV. She proclaimed she could tell me what I was going to put on and

I had no idea that Diane was psychic, so I was naturally interesting in hearing more. She went on to say, "A new study suggested that women are 60% more likely to dress sexy when they are ovulating." Wow! I wasn't prepared to hear that. My own wardrobe decisions are usually based on the weather and who I am seeing for the day. Could I subconsciously be making the same decision too? I would not be too surprised if the answer was yes.

As a woman, I have experienced and caught myself doing strange things as I have grown older. I have compared notes with my girlfriends who are in my age bracket and two things seem to be consistent:

1. A woman's sex drive does seem to increase in the thirties
2. Whether a woman has the desire to have children or not there does seem to be some sort of internal clock ticking

I try to ignore my clock, however being the baby making machine I was born to be, my clock seems to have the upper hand on timing. I imagine a little woman inside me who is part women and part general of war.

She is in constant communication with my mother, a woman known for bringing up the topic of grandchildren. She also seems to launch PMS missiles of pain whenever she chooses to do so. I really have to engage my body in war to defeat her. Lucky for me, I figured it out “ working out more and eating better seems to make her retreat.

Animals of all kinds exhibit irregular behavior during ovulation. They may look, act and/or smell different. It is not a big stretch to imagine that we do the same too. I find myself laughing when I put the idea into perspective. I am pretty sure it would be a complete buzz kill to most men to hear this as they express an attraction to a certain women,"Her? She's not sexy, she just ovulating."

How this might look like for the guys? We may not have a biological/physiological cycle (at least not one that is easily recognizable), but you do have to wonder how we may dress or not dress (to impress) based on our cycle (whatever that may be).

We don't have the need to do anything -- at least the author didn't say we are affected to dress differently because of hormones.
