Church Chairs

These simple tips can help you improve the appearance of your church chairs and make them durable enough to last your entire congregation for years to come.

The chairs in your church get a lot of heavy use, so chances are good that they are slightly worn and in need of a bit of care and repair. Making these repairs can be much more affordable than replacing your chairs completely, and you can take this opportunity as a way of making them look nice and making a difference in the appearance of your church as a whole.

Choose the Right Fabric

Obviously, one of the first things you will have to do before updating your church chairs is to choose a fabric, but this step can be more involved than you might think. It is essential to choose the right fabric, so keep the following in mind when selecting fabric for your church chairs:

  • Search for something durable. The chairs will be used a lot over the next few years, so look for a fabric that is going to withstand the test of time. Fabrics such as polypropylene, polyolefin and polyester are very high quality fabrics. Click here to find out more about the types of fabrics.
  • Choose a fabric that is conservative. You probably don't want to choose something in a wild and crazy color scheme for a church setting.
  • Remember that your chairs are a part of your church's decor. This means you won't want to settle for a cheap fabric as a way of saving money, and you should look for something beautiful that complements the rest of the decor as nicely as possible.
  • Don't shy away from modern looks. There is a difference between going with something conservative and choosing a fabric that is boring and outdated. If you can, find an upholstery that is vibrant and modern but is still conservative enough to be appropriate.

Have Your Church Chairs Reupholstered

After choosing the fabric that you want to use, you will have to find someone to reupholster your chairs for you. There are quite a few good companies out there that offer these services, and many of them use the newest technology as a way of ensuring a great job. Before sending your chairs off to have them reupholstered, however, consider asking to see a few examples of the company's work. Also, ask if there is a discount for having multiple chairs done at once; you might be able to snag a significant discount, which can save your church a lot of money.

Make Other Changes

In some cases, redoing the upholstery on your chairs won't be enough. Some chairs might be in need of repairs so that they will be sturdy and strong enough to last for many more years, and some might look worn or dated. Staining the wood, repairing structural issues and making other changes can make your chairs last for many years, however, and will make them look like new again.
