Federer looking forward to Wimbledon

by David Cox (writer), , June 10, 2013

Roger Federer is looking forward to this year's grass swing and he'll be hoping to make a successful title defence at Wimbledon.

Roger Federer cut a dejected figure when he was beaten by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter-finals of the French Open but he can at least look forward to the grass swing now that his clay season has come to an end. Federer appears to be falling behind his great rivals Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, but on the All-England Club lawns there's reason to believe that Fedex can beat anyone over five sets.

"I love the grass court season. Especially as it's been 10 years since my first Wimbledon victory," said Federer in anticipation of his next challenge. "I'm looking forward to coming back to Halle and Wimbledon, where I did the double 10 years ago. I'm sure it's going to be a nice swing," he added.

Federer hasn't been the ATP's leading light for a while now but he's remained competitive with the best players in the game. Forming an integral part of the 'big four', the Swiss legend can still mix it up with the best.

But does he have another slam title in him? At a push it certainly seems possible, especially on the grass. He'll need to start finding solutions to the problems posed by Djokovic, Nadal and Andy Murray, but he's not so far off the pace that he's no longer in the running. The next few weeks could be telling.
