Introduction In the 1990's when I was contemplating learning Spanish, I was told repeatedly by well-meaning friends that if I really wanted to learn Spanish I would have to live in a country in which Spanish was the dominate spoken tongue. If you Google "Spanish Immersion," you will get 1,790,000 hits. After exhausting myself by reading about 250 websites, all of which tried very hard to get me to enroll in their costly Spanish Immersion Courses located in various Spanish-speaking countries, which would have required me to re-mortgage my home a billion times plus hope some rich philanthropist... The 33-year-old marketing manager and mother-to-be recently turned her war writings into a book. “In the Company of Soldiers” is the story of her time in Iraq.

Meichelbock took the time for an exclusive email Q&A with BrooWaha to discuss being separated from her unit, a poignant moment while frisking an Iraqi woman and the important role females play in the military.

BrooWaha: When were you in Iraq and what was your position?

Melia: My position was a Civil Affairs Specialist (civil assistance, rebuilding efforts, elections, etc...). We meet with the local leaders to... Read More

Until Ronald Reagan’s second term in 1984, there was a saying in the political arena: As goes California, so goes America. In those days it meant that whatever position or candidate was supported by the majority of California the rest of the nation seemed to follow suit. Beginning in 1988 when George Herbert Walker Bush was elected president the tide began to turn because of the increasing amount of liberalism coming from California. Fortunately, the rest of America is a bit more conservative than California so many of the ultra left-wing wacko ideas that crawl out of the San... Read More

Before I go any further its worth noting, that I, and I would imagine countless others who are independent of party lines, view Senator Obama as a positive and inspirational force on the political landscape, and I truly believe that he doesn’t subscribe to Wright’s incinerating, divisive and hate filled views. However, it does bring into question Obama’s judgment, and perhaps even his truthfulness.

For almost two decades, Senator Obama, along with his wife and children attended the Trinity Unity Church of Christ, a Chicago based church, headed by his “spiritual... Read More

Keith Rankin. In the early hours March the 19th a large, earth hour hot air balloon, could be seen floating above Sydney Harbour, reminding people, to switch off for the environment.

Earth Hour organisers anticipate, millions of people around Australia will turn off their lights for an hour on March 29 to raise awareness about global warming.

The 32-metre high balloon, shaped like an environmentally-friendly light-bulb, floated over Garden Island at 7.30am to help raise awareness about energy efficient lighting.

This year, Earth Hour will go international, with cities... Read More

I watched a replay of Senator Obama’s response to recent publication of comments made by Jeremiah Wright from the pulpit of the Trinity United Church of Christ. In true slick fashion, Obama made the whole issue into a debate about racism in America and failed to acknowledge (or more appropriately ignored) the real issue at hand. The question still remains: “Does Obama really believe and hold in his heart those things which Wright said?”

Among his comments today, Obama did acknowledge that Mr. Wright said some things from the pulpit that are controversial and... Read More

Here in myopic New York it is easy to assume that our news is yours, too, but let me start out by a little "factual" review: as of 1 pm today, Elliot Spitzer (D), New York's 54th governor, will be resigning in the wake of a scandal revealing his involvement in a prostitution ring. Amongst the facts revealed over the past week was that this vehemently moral crusader was largely responsible for the investigatory task force that ultimately did him in. It made me wonder if he didn't in part intend or hope for this to happen, as so many who find themselves in the unintended, human morass of questionable... Read More

I believe that someday all military operations will be reduced and we will be able to make agreements using international negotiations. War never changes things to better, never!
