Succinctly put, 'abstinence-only' sex education is an oxymoron. The contradiction being, abstinence-only sex education does not focus on education, but uses fear-based tactics to promote withholding sex until marriage. Key educational features, such as contraception methods, are completely removed from the curriculum, while other states have no mandated sex education at all.
So is sex education needed in the schools? What is the problem?
The deal is that even though US teen pregnancy is at a low (about 35 out 1,000 teen girls will become pregnant), the US still has the highest... Read More
On one particular occasion when Albert Einstein was presiding over a physics final exam, a puzzled student asked him:- "Dr. Einstein, aren't these the same questions as last year's exam?" Einstein replied :- "Yes, but this year the answers are different." In every branch of science, the 'answers' change from year to year, decade to decade. To illustrate the point, let's consider the up-and-down...and up again story of the humble coconut. During World War I, the coconut helped Uncle Sam keep soldiers safe out in the trenches. Gas mask factories used the carbon from charred coconut shells... Read More
Serving Size: Near the very top of the label you will find the serving size. This is simply just the amount of product in one serving of the item you want to buy. The problem that people run into with this information comes down to whether or not the amount shown is actually a serving or not. Manufacturers will purposely put a smaller amount so that you are led to believe it has less carbohydrates and saturated fat than it really has. That is why it is especially important to check out how much a serving indeed is. From there you can judge exactly how many servings you will actually be eating... Read More
You often hear the word essential thrown around in your day to day life in a cavalier manner. It is not an important vitamin, it is actually essential in that we cannot survive without. Our bodies can synthesize many other vitamins, but with vitamin C the only way to get it into our body is from the food and supplements that we consume. The only other animals that cannot synthesize Vitamin C are bats, guinea pigs, capybaras, and other primates. Every other animal including our pets like dogs for example can simply make Vitamin C from other parts of it’s body.

I trained at home and at our local gym. Desperately wanting to get back into some-kind of decent shape, I began following the female body-building world, I read magazines, watched ESPN’s broadcasts of competitions, and even attended local competitions where I got to see beautiful Marjo Selin and Charla Sedacca (known for her awesome biceps). Well, I caught the fever; I wanted to be a bodybuilder. I was hooked.
I bought and read anything and everything on bodybuilding, anything I could get my hands on. I even plastered posters of male and female bodybuilders in my garage—surrounding myself... Read More
Really think about why you are trying to lose this weight. Are you trying to lose this weight so you can buy yourself a gift at the end? Are you trying to lose this weight so you can treat yourself with an unhealthy food at the end? Too many of you out there forget the real benefit of losing the weight… is actually losing the weight. There is nothing wrong with treating yourself to something special. The problem is that people forget that the real joy is setting a goal that we really want and sticking to it. If that goal alone is not enough to motivate you than you may not have what it takes... Read More
1. Rationalizing what we eat: Rationalizing is our way of making sense about things that we may not understand fully. Very often we will put stock in something that is false just because it make us feel better about not sticking to our diet. “Just one Brownie won’t hurt” Actually it will hurt you as one brownie has 39 grams of carbohydrates in which most are sugar to boot. Instead of just rationalizing everything it is better to be totally honest with your self about whether or not what we eat is actually “ok.”
2. One of the biggest reasons we rationalize our the food we eat is because... Read More
