Many people who suffer from low self-esteem and low confidence have struggled with these issues for a long time. Too many of them either decide that this is who I am, and it will never change. Others try many different methods to boost their confidence but fail. This failure is not from a want of trying. It is mainly due to their energy and focuses being misplaced. In this article, we will explore one tried and tested method to improve your confidence. This is a four-step process, Step five can be achieved at any stage.
#1. Choose an affirmation that can you believe in.
Too many positive affirmations are nothing but empty promises. What is the point in telling yourself you are the greatest if you don't believe it? When your overall mindset is predisposed to rejecting such affirmations, you will inevitably end up feeling worse as a consequence. Write down a list of things you are good at.
#2. Never be afraid to ask for help
One of the most important steps to finding or recovering your self-confidence is the ability to ask for help. A problem shared is truly a problem halved, talking to someone always helps. If you are in need of help to increase self-esteem have a talk with a psychotherapist in Calgary. They are happy to listen and help in any way we can.
#3. Focus on one of these things
The best place to start building your self-confidence is on a solid foundation. Now that you have identified something you are good at, you can find a group of people who will appreciate your talent too. For example, if you enjoy spending time with your grandparents, maybe you should consider volunteering at a local seniors centre. If you can play a musical instrument, why not offer a few music lessons. Doing something that you know you are good at is easy, helping others will be a great tool for building your confidence.
#4. Set yourself up to win.
Once you have identified the skill or skills that you know you are good at and have found a way to help people using this skill, it is time to take a further step. Take this skill and put yourself in a position where you are going to win, set small achievable goals. Building a stream of small successes will inevitably lead to your confidence in getting a boost. The most important part of this step is to record all your successes. Anytime you feel your confidence take a dip, this list will remind you of the things you have achieved.
#5. Learn to listen to others.
One of the most difficult aspects of low self-confidence and low self-esteem is that people resist compliments. They have to learn to accept compliments as being genuine and do so graciously. Many people who suffer from low self-confidence are resistant to compliments. Sometimes they physically shy away from someone who is trying to offer them a compliment.
