Basic Applications of Maths in Real-Life

Maths is not only a subject but a part of our day to day life. We use Maths principles in various aspects of our daily routine. When you speak about numbers, it is all Maths. But in the academics, we are taught with the types of numbers such as, even numbers, odd numbers, prime numbers, composite numbers, etc. with which we can variate our daily task.

Maths is a common subject for Kindergarten to Class 10th standard, students. After 10th standard, students have the option to choose the subjects, as per their interest, like Maths, Biology, Commerce etc. But almost all subject carries some basic mathematical calculations. Along with this, there is a huge application of Maths on our real-life both on large scale and small scale.

Maths is commonly used at home for calculations which include addition, subtraction, division and multiplications. Let us see some of the common applications of Maths principles in our routine life by taking a few examples.

  1. While calculating the price of grocery products, we use additions.
  2. While purchasing the vegetables, we check the weight of it and pay per Kg weight, by using multiplications.
  3. Also, if you are doing savings for your future, you need to cut some amount of money from your daily expenditure using the subtraction method.
  4. Division method is used for budgeting the money as per requirement or needs for different purposes in the house so that it could also help in savings of money.
  5. Daily proportions we use in the kitchen while cooking dishes, is an application of Maths concepts.
  6. In decorations of home, the shapes and sizes matters.
  7. In a large scale, for constructing buildings, the engineers use Maths logic in a widespread.

In the same way, there is a lot of purposes of Maths and its principles in real life, which you will come across daily. Therefore, students who are into their academics, are advised to take the Maths subject seriously and try to connect with the outer world for a better understanding of concepts, such as, the formula for sphere volume can be used to calculate the volume of a basketball or football etc. Also, these concepts will be helpful to build their analytical skills stronger.
