Stay Away From Peer Pressure
While it’s going to be tempting to try and live out prom as you see in the movies, that’s unfortunately not the reality for most. Keep in mind, I’m not saying don’t try to have fun, but do keep in mind that you don’t have to participate in everything your peers are doing. According to a survey by MADD, 74% of teens felt pressured by their friends to use alcohol on prom night, with 49% saying they felt the need to do drugs. Don’t fall into these traps, as you could be in an environment where you’re not protected in case something goes wrong. Furthermore, if you don’t know what you’re drinking, then don’t even think about taking a sip. One of the worst mistakes you could make is ending up sick over something your friends were passing around, which is a surefire way to have your night come to a halt.

Finally, one of the biggest things I can’t stress enough is not to drink and drive on prom night. As noted by Edgar Snyder, approximately 33% of teen accidents have alcohol involved. The combination of a new driver and being under the influence is never a good combination. Additionally, as the police are well aware of when prom occurs, there’s a higher chance of their presence on the road. If you choose to drink, do so in a safe location that you can sleep at, or call a safe ride. Even just a couple drinks behind the wheel could be a big mistake, which is an adult decision you need to plan for.
