Being Human Means Helping Others

Wikipedia

How often have you turned on the news recently and seen a disaster? And, not just of the natural variety because we shouldn’t dismiss North Korea, Iran and America’s immigration policy. Everywhere and everyone seem to be in distress and it’s only October. While disasters are catastrophic, turning your back on people in need is even worse. The event may not be your fault, but there are things you can do to help. For the people who value others, it’s time to fight back.

These are the things anyone can do to help the less fortunate.

Give To Charity

There’s a good chance you don’t know anyone who is in desperate need of help. Mostly, humans surround themselves with like-minded people. Still, it doesn’t mean there aren’t citizens of the world who are down on their luck. It just means the majority of individuals live in a bubble. As a solution, you should try and donate cash to a bona fide charity. Charitable organisations attempt to make the world a better place. You may not change a person’s life directly, yet your contributions will play a significant role. As always, only donate as much as your budget will allow.

Use Assets

Are you a big player in a corporate organisation? Maybe you own a company and are the big boss? If the answers to the questions are yes, there is plenty to give. A piece of feel-good news to come out of the hurricanes in America is the phone company Q Link Wireless. Recent Issa Asad news reports from the local area say the firm is providing free cell phone coverage throughout Texas. Rather than think about money, the CEO has decided to put people first. Business owners have valuable assets which can change people’s lives.

Buy Food And Drink

Homelessness is a major issue in western society, yet there is a problem. People don’t like giving the homeless money because they think it will go on drugs and alcohol. Let’s face it – no one wants to make their life worse. The key is to forget about money. If their intentions make you uneasy, it is possible to help without placing money in their hands. For instance, everyone needs food and water so you can buy them a meal. Or, if you prefer, go to a local shelter and pay for a week’s accommodation. That way, they get what they need without having to deal with temptation.

Smile

Okay, a simple smile isn’t going to right the world’s wrongs. Indeed, people in need may laugh at the notion. However, a smile has a warm and safe effect. When a person smiles at another, it instantly makes them laugh or return the favour. Simply put, it’s a chemical reaction supported by science. To take it one step further, take time to sit and listen to their troubles. Lend a supportive ear and offer advice. Or, just let them vent their frustrations. Sometimes, all a person needs to do is get their troubles off their chest.

Remember the words of the Dalai Lama: “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.”
