The fighter jets and 60 US military personnel landed at Siauliai Air Base in Lithuania, adding to the four F-15s and 150 troops already there to do the air patrol mission. War Fatigue

By DKIdea, published on Dec 23, 2013

...this country. I was born here, live here...and as selfish as it may sound, put here first. That said, it’s almost impossible to go anywhere and not be inundated by news or personal opinions about current affairs when it comes to Syria.

It is a heinous crime to subject anyone to chemical warfare, be they your enemy or the citizens of your country. As an entity in power charged with the protection of your own people, such an act is particularly horrendous. The death of innocents, especially children, is reprehensible. So anyone feeling this way also, know that I feel as you do. It... (more)

A Flicker Of Light And Hope

By Barbara MacDonald , published on Oct 18, 2013

Like a shadow of a cloud

When did our souls learn to cry?

Their fears and worries beckoning

Pulling them to a place of unrest

Gleaming moons in the winter sky...

Yesterday, they dreamed of peace

Now that dream shattered

Lost in the frost of war

Mutilating this sweet serenity

Unending longing for grace...

Time never gave them

The chance to be true

Their sun once intensely burning

Golden and fiercely reflected

A glimpse of heaven...

Now a dying ember

On a gray horizon

Dulled... (more)

American Media and the ex-Soviet Propaganda

By ranfuchs, published on Sep 1, 2013

...bloodshed since 2008.

What about the 3,852 civilian casualties in Afghanistan in the first half of this year? When was the last time you watched, read or thought about them?

And until last week, like the media, most Americans did not care about the two and a half years of civil war in Syria that killed over 100,000 people. Not until Obama declared, “Let’s bomb them.”Suddenly, the media is discovering how immoral these Syrian are. So bad that even without strategy or objectives, we must bomb them into submission.

In the daily media, there is little discussion... (more)

Private Wars – `lest we forget'.

By iancochrane, published on Jun 24, 2013

... that man.” A self-conscious smile and she turns away. I head home thinking of Ed and the upcoming reunions across Australia and New Zealand.

Ed’s an old school friend, us both from the other side of town. With the coming of conscription, I missed `The Draft’ by one day, gravitating toward anti-war rallies and well-stacked, skinny girls in tight jeans and tees. Ed had wandered up north, picking fruit at first, then somehow ending up in Sydney. Next thing I heard, he’d joined the army and gone to Viet Nam. Becky is Ed’s wife number 3; of 4yrs now.

That night I readied... (more)
