Three Edged Sword: Trayvon & George

By DKIdea, published on Jul 21, 2013

I’ve read and heard a lot about the Trayvon Martin tragedy and thought long about my personal position on the matter. I understand that emotions are running high on both sides of the equation, but if reason doesn’t rule the day, then we learn nothing from all of this and are doomed to repeat the cycle. There is a 17 year old young man dead. We must ask why and assign some culpability, once we have the answer.

We should use the power of reason to uncover the exact moment, the very beginning of wrongdoing, that set in motion the chain of events leading to death.

He went to the store and was coming back

Then was slain for the crime of “walking while black.”

For too long this has been the case

People hating people based on... (more)

Trayvon Martin v. George Zimmerman - The Unspoken

By Notumbus Bumbus, published on Apr 2, 2012

Let us for a moment of pure speculative mental muscle flexing suppose that George Zimmerman is speaking the truth - he was in a fight with Trayvon Martin and "feared for his life." Not that I buy that, mind you, but merely to allow us to look at something that is too unpleasant for most non-people-of-color-people to have to consider. Especially because us white folk seldom if ever have had to face, unlike the Trayvon Martin's of the world.

We know, by Zimmerman's own admission, and by the 911 call, that he specifically went after Martin, despite being told not to do so. We know that... (more)
