Turkey has scrambled jets after Russian surveillance plane flew along Turkey's Black Sea Coast, shortly after a US destroyer deployed in the area. The report comes amid heightened tension over the crisis in Ukraine. The USS Truxtun passed the Dardanelles strait earlier today on its way to the Black Sea, amid reports that Russia has now 30,000 troops in Crimea. The US Navy said in a statement that the Truxtun would conduct training with Romanian and Bulgarian naval forces.

Russia releases key findings on chemical attack near Aleppo

By Shaun Gibson, published on Sep 5, 2013

People injured in what the government said was a chemical weapons attack, breathe through oxygen masks as they are treated at a hospital in the Syrian city of Aleppo March 19, 2013 (Reuters / George Ourfalian) : http://rt.com

Probes from Khan al-Assal show chemicals used in the March 19 attack did not belong to standard Syrian army ammunition, and that the shell carrying the substance was similar to those made by a rebel fighter group, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.

Iran Leader claims Israel 'A Wound To Be Cleansed'

By Shaun Gibson, published on Aug 2, 2013

Iran's president-elect Hassan Rouhani has called Israel an old "wound" that must be removed. These statements would seem to cast doubt on the viability of efforts to revive peace talks betwen the Palestinians and Israel.

"The Zionist regime is a wound inflicted for years on the body of the Muslim world that must be cleansed," Mr Rouhani said to reporters.

His comments echoed those of outgoing president Mahmound Ahmadinejad who earlier whipped up anti-Israel sentiment at an Quds day rally in Tehran.

He said: "I will inform you with God as my witness, a devastating storm... (more)

The Madness and Malice of Bombers

By Caballero_69, published on Apr 18, 2013

Bombs are rankling malice given ferocious execution.

Obscenely they pervert technical ingenuity into malignant insanity.

Stealthy, assassins who slay without caring whose lives they steal

Turing satisfaction, hopes, and triumphs into sorrows, horrors, and tragedies

Only cruel, craven rouges bomb people celebrating community spirit.

Neither torturous logic nor grotesque posturing mitigates this atrocity!

Much time and energy will now be expended by trained investigators.

All possibilities will be evaluated and no stone will go unturned.

Resolute... (more)

Eyeless in Gaza

By Anastasia , published on Nov 23, 2012

An Indian user on Blog Catalogue raised the question of sides in the recent Gaza conflict. Apparently there was some concern in his country over the ‘disproportionate’ Israeli reaction to attacks by Hamas. This is my response.

You conclude your well-argued, balanced and reasonable perspective with a clear statement of principle: "Let's support the innocent people in both Palestine and Israel who wish to live a normal life like all others." How could I possibly fail to agree with those sentiments; how could anyone fail to agree? The latest news is that a ceasefire has been concluded,... (more)

Honesty - that’s the last thing we expect

By Anastasia , published on Sep 20, 2012

I know: we are not used to it; we are not used to uncomfortable truths, especially in politics. We are more comfortable with dissimulation and hypocrisy. What else do we expect from a candidate for high office? Do we expect honesty? No, of course not; or at least that’s the conclusion I have to reach on the basis of the fuss that followed the latest Romney speak.

Do you know what he said at his fund-raiser or have you simply read comment on how awful he said what he said, sans the actual words? Well, then, let’s have a look, beginning with the big shocker, the forty-seven percenter:

Evil under the Mask of Faith

By Anastasia , published on Sep 13, 2012

The murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens in Benghazi called to mind one of my previous BrooWaha articles on Libya (Making war on the Dead, March 14, 2012). I never believed in the fake promise of the Arab Spring. Let me be even more frank: these people are incapable of freedom. They are immersed, they will always be immersed, in darkness, hysteria and fanaticism. Let me remind you of some of my previous words:

Why, oh why, I continually ask myself, did the West ever get involved in wretched palaces like Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya? Why did we not just leave the people in these dreadful... (more)
