...I have lived with children under the age of 18 for 33 years. I think that many mothers can relate to this this saint as well. She lived what she liked to call the little way of those who are not rich and famous but who want to serve God their loving Father through their littleness and simplicity and love. She chose to stay as a child in they eyes of God, performing all of her duties with love and obedience, no matter how small and insignificant they were.

But how do we receive grace?
Simple. Everything about God is simple and natural. We are the ones in our pride who complicate our relationship to Him. Although Jesus surprised me by suddenly appearing in my life at 16, I tried too hard afterwards to grow in the spiritual life. The following joke I heard when I was in university, told by a Jesuit priest who was my professor. I laughed so hard that I never forgot it. For me it sums up what is wrong in our Western main line churches because they tend to intellectualize the gospel. Theology and doctrine or a better word would be sophistry, replaces spirituality and a basic love relationship with God.
