Memorial Day: A Time to Remember

By Coach Phatty, published on May 24, 2014

It has always fascinated me how many people have sacrificed their lives or the quality of their life for the freedom that all Americans enjoy every day. I can’t imagine the impact that these misfortunes have on not only the soldiers, but the lives of their families and friends.

I always take the time each Memorial Day to think of the soldiers and the freedom that we have and say a little prayer for all of those who are in harm’s way today.

Unfortunately, I am embarrassed and sorry to say, that I don’t think many people REALLY are grateful for the many things that they take pleasure... (more)

The China Earthquake: “You Must Remember That I Love You”

By Coach Phatty, published on Apr 5, 2014

This is a true story of a Mother’s Sacrifice during the China Earthquake.

After the Earthquake had subsided, when the rescuers reached the ruins of a young woman’s house, they saw her dead body through the cracks. But her pose was somehow strange that she knelt on her knees like a person was worshiping; her body was leaning forward, and her two hands were supported by an object. The collapsed house had crashed her back and her head.

With so many difficulties, the leader of the rescue team put his hand through a narrow gap on the wall to reach the woman’s body. He was hoping... (more)

Veterans Day: Soldiers Reflections

By Coach Phatty, published on Nov 12, 2013

The following is a collection of stories, accumulated and written by Judith Blakely a Yahoo Contributor. It gives us glimpse of the sacrifice and courage that our soldiers gave our nation. Let’s take time today to thank the Veterans that we know for fighting to give us the freedom that we all deserve.

Veterans Day is here. Our hearts go out to the families of our soldiers serving at war. Our thoughts are drawn to the sacrifices of our young men and women overseas. Our memories flash to the past, of the stories of our fathers and grandfathers

Within these next stories, our... (more)

Because of Love: The “Old One”

By Coach Phatty, published on Sep 26, 2013

A brother and sister had made their usual hurried, obligatory pre- Christmas visit to the little farm where their elderly parents dwelt with their small herd of horses. The farm was where they had grown up and it had been named Lone Pine Farm because of the huge pine, which topped the hill behind the farmhouse. Through the years the tree had become a talisman to the old man and his wife, and a landmark in the countryside. The young siblings had fond memories of their childhood here, but the city hustle and bustle added more excitement to their lives, and called them away to a different... (more)

Your Life is No Longer Your Own

By Coach Phatty, published on May 27, 2013

As Memorial Day rolls around, I am reminded of a story that I heard. Though the exactness of it I cannot confirm, I am assured its basis is quite factual, and its message definitely deserves to be retold.

The story is of a man, Andrew, who was known all his life for selfless sacrifice and good works. He always stood in defense of the defenseless, and toiled without tiring, standing up for the downtrodden and underprivileged. As he grew old, and people tried to honor him for his well-lived life of service, he was reluctant to accept the praise and attention that his community... (more)

Remember................

By Humble Opinion, published on May 27, 2012

...follow.

These Americans and so many others gave their lives for us to live in a free and peaceful land. A land where they left behind loved ones to go stand guard on the walls. Honor their memory on Memorial Day, or any other day for that matter, by stopping to think about them and the sacrifice they made for the rest of us.

To those families of the fallen who are alive today, let there be peace in your lives. Let there be the light of love in your hearts. And let the sorrow be taken from you by a Being that has the power to do so. Let you find the help and the support that... (more)

Egoistic Fraud and Capitalistic Vainglory

By Caballero_69, published on Jun 11, 2011

...neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself. The pursuit of his own rational self-interest and of his own happiness is the highest moral purpose of his life.”

In order to make this assertion sensible Ms. Rand essentially inverted the common definition of sacrifice. In its original use, sacrifice referred to an offering meant to propitiate a deity. None of the practitioners of ritual sacrifice, from whatever continent and culture, ever viewed the sacrificial offering as having greater value than inhered in the propitiated deity. In the common... (more)
