By Alethea, published on Dec 5, 2006

Two employees have been found to be contaminated with the E. Coli bacterium but were not showing symptoms of illness. An additional 14 cases arose in Long Island shortly thereafter and are currently being investigated to see whether there is a connection between these new infections and the restaurant... (more)

Brokeback Date

By Dan Maier, published on Nov 27, 2006

... a strange and wonderful place to find a date. Rather than engaging in well known internet dating platitudes, I’ve decided to share a story from one of the more interesting, well, at least more entertaining dates. A bilateral decision was made to be somewhat adventurous and meet at a restaurant that neither of us had been to. The menu was readily available online and we both had a chance to look at it prior to our joint decision. However, once at the restaurant, my date did not like anything on the menu nor did the adventurous part of the evening she had agreed to, continue to... (more)

By Josh Marks, published on Nov 16, 2006

...public spaces, which bring people together in a pedestrian-friendly environment. Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade is one of the success stories. Stretching from Broadway to Wilshire and only three blocks from the Pacific Ocean, the Promenade is lined with hundreds of shops and restaurants, plus three first-run movie theaters and an independent cinema on Second Street. A multitude of street performers (more than 700 permits handed out this year alone) compete for the attention and dollars of around 40,000 daily visitors. There are also an estimated 2,000 homeless in and... (more)

...was out for the ladies. I imagine he scored bigger than he has in years. He ought to consider beard-grooming.” Through tear-filled eyes, Madeline Reiker, roof-top party witness, accounts details. “A woman and boy cornered a couple dressed as Adam and Eve under that restaurant’s patio,” she pointed across the street. “The tables had been stacked, and it created a human trap. Enjoyment: M.I.A. at Mia

By quinne anderson, published on Oct 23, 2006

...have metropolitan needs. Not having to drive across town to the west side, where notably good sushi is in abundance, is one of those needs. I thought to myself that Mia's sudden existence was a sign. It's just what the Eagle Rock area needs: a little bit of class. Upon arrival at the restaurant, the feeling of chic, modern, Asian-Californian fusion decor titillates you. It's got the ambience down pat. It's small and cozy, but sexy in a mellow, unobtrusive way. The atmosphere is minimalist; the calm colors and sensuous lighting make you glad you brought a date. Despite its... (more)

Don't Forget the Derby!

By Alethea, published on Oct 19, 2006

In the days of the Golden Hollywood era, the Brown Derby was the place to be. The Derby started as a cute little restaurant in Hollywood shaped like a derby hat. It soon spread to 3 other locations throughout Hollywood, all of which were bombarded with old time movie stars, swing dancers and night-clubbers. Carole Lombard, Clark Gable, and Lucille Ball were some of the faces you might have seen frequenting these hot spots. Sadly however, to date there is only one Derby left as the rest have been turned into malls, parking lots or offices. The last of the original Derbies stands on Los... (more)
