The Politics Of Expatriating To Mexico

By expat2003, published on Apr 28, 2008

...don't expatriate. The vast majority of Americans who move to Mexico never bother with language, which is the doorway to this magnificent culture. Then, there are those who do learn the language , and learn it well, but not so they can access the culture. They do it for money. They operate real estate businesses in order to rent and sell to gullible Gringos. They perpetuate the myth that the Gringo can move to Mexico and live like the Queen of England never having to associate with the riffraff. These money-driven cultural imperialists care not a whit about how they affect the culture.... (more)

A Light Bulb Moment On Moving To Mexico

By expat2003, published on Apr 22, 2008 true that the vast majority of Gringolandians move to Mexico based on a concept and not a reality, then why wouldn't they attack me relentlessly for exposing the fact that they move to Mexico to engage in forever altering the local language and culture by seeking to buy up every piece of real estate in sight?Culture is not the issue for moving to Mexico for the majority, however money is indeed the reason. The Concept of Mexico that is painted for the one who does not hold to the philosophy of expatriatism I've expressed in this essay is that Mexico is just waiting with baited breath... (more)

Endeavor To Create An Amazing Home And Garden

By Credo, published on Jan 16, 2008

... hands of apprentices like me and my family has been our best reward). This was a dream that could have never been realized if we as homeowners did not economize, strategize, or improvise.

Just the other day some family members of the previous owners of the property saw the house in a real estate ad and decided to call on us to see their old home (which by the way we paid them less than you would pay for a car and today the house is worth at least a mil) and let me tell you they were astonished. Flabbergasted as they were we agreed to tour the house and as we did they couldn’t... (more)

Feasting At The Public Trough

By Mistress Doctor, published on Dec 13, 2007

I was a renter in San Francisco for years. Last year I inherited some money. I then bought a house in Novato. Novato is the furthest town north in Marin County. As a homeowner I now pay real estate taxes that go to the City of Novato and Marin County. My understanding is they go to pay for infrastructure. Like police, sheriff, district attorney, fire department, animal shelter, 911, schools, recreation departments, etc. I also pay rent for my office, also in Novato. I pay insurance, advertising, maintenance and utilities for my office. I have a doctorate in Psychology, a license from... (more)

...and so did I. Lots of things that we liked about each other were still there. We had ups and downs. We are together now, she doesn’t like my hours but likes my writing and does a bit of her own. We are both approaching a BIG BIRTHDAY with a zero in it and looking at options of real estate, more writing and some other stuff since we are supposed to be somewhat grown up by this point. We have both traveled and had a lot of experiences, which add texture and fullness to life. I am content because I’m doing as good of a job as I can but 14-hour work days for weeks... (more)
