...(actually, just a newer set of assumptions), until that understanding eventually gives way to yet another layer. Like the onion, there is no center point, only layer upon layer.
And yet we humans continue to pursue knowledge, not merely for its own sake, but for the possibly mistaken purpose of arriving at some form of ultimate, final knowledge. I would argue the goal is both absurd, and should one feel they have truly arrived at such a place ( a fundamental mistake of reason and judgment), they have instead arrived at the only real form of death. I believe (clearly my own current ... (more)
Have you ever wondered what your purpose in life is? While I imagine almost everyone has asked his or herself that same question, I have yet to meet anyone who openly wanted to discuss the question over coffee and chocolate chip cookies. I like chocolate chip cookies. The Oxford Dictionary defines purpose as, “the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.” Nietzsche said of purpose, "To forget one's purpose is the commonest form of stupidity." The basic premise of Nietzsche argument is not only that we all have a purpose in life but that ignoring one's purpose... (more)
Has someone ever said or done something that made you feel bad? Well, unless you have pointy ears and your name is Spock, the answer is yes, you've had a negative emotional response to the words or actions of another. And if it was an intense reaction, you may have even felt like you'd been zapped with an emotional-chemical cocktail from the dark side, and before you even consciously realized it, you were giving someone a piece of your mind, or physically taking things into your own hands, or both—it was automatic.
Sure, there are plenty of reasons to get angry and do what needs done.... (more)
I believe that everybody has a purpose, a place, a role. The existence of each individual life creates a chain reaction that has a domino affect on multitudes of other lives. And while you may feel that your place in this world isn't very important, imagine a chain that is missing a link. Imagine a row of dominoes all laid out in complicated structures... but there is a missing piece. The domino's movement starts with the master of ceremonies if you will, but it's a piece that looks just like the others. They are the same size and shape. As is the missing piece, where ever it may be,... (more)
You’ll never know how something so simple as your smile can influence or change someone’s life. You’ll never know, until you’re told. I was and now I’m sharing it with you.
I’ve never been one to hold back a smile. It’s just always been a part of who I am. My mom always had one plastered on her face and its probably where I learned it from. I never TRULY knew how a smile can really change someone’s attitude until I started working in the restaurant industry as a server. I would see these people come in to eat and they would just be so unhappy when I approached the table. I would... (more)
On the 26th of October, a Thursday night, I stood before the television - which was on mostly for company "trying out my first ever Halloween costume. Due to this fact I was, at that moment, very conscious of what stage of the year we were in. Halloween. Late. The year firmly on the w a n e. I was a little lost in contemplation of this fact. The usual combo of retrospection and introspection ensued. It was nothing too serious though, just a general acknowledgement of passing time that seems to pick up pace, commensurate with age, like a freight train clamoring through your life, gathering...
