Best Of The Best

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 28, 2010

I watch a lot of sports media coverage. It's a sickness really. It also gets on my nerves a lot, but yet I continue to watch. The NFL talking heads love to make their predictions on what team in the best and I thought I would give it a go with just a little more explanation.

In the AFC, there is no doubt which team is the best - by record. The Patriots are at 13 and 2 on the season. That makes them the best team by record. But like every other team in the league, the Patriots have their problems. The Patriots defense, which much improved from the start of the season, can still... (more)

Down To The Wire

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 27, 2010

The NFL season is about to come down to the wire. One more Sunday and in some cases it's the day to decide it all as a couple of divisions are still undecided.

AFC South - The Colts and Jags continue to duke it out for the top spot in the division. The Colts are on top right now at an uncharacteristic 9 and 6. The Colts have been beaten up all year. I know they must be on their 17th set of receivers by now and their defense must have been loaned to them by the UFL. Peyton Manning has basically willed them to win. Just fighting through injury after injury pushing forward and trying... (more)

Really Cowboys?!

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 26, 2010

The Cowboys are just a mess. They just cannot seem to get anything together. I have my own thoughts as the reasons why and I think I'm right for the part. I also think that unless big changes are made, the Cowboys stay mired in the dregs of the NFL for a good long time.

The Cowboys have some extremely talented players. But you would never know it by the way they play most of the time. I think that the Cowboys have 3 problems. One, Jerry Jones. The owner is just too involved in the day to day activities. He cannot let the team evolve as it is with the players and the coaches.... (more)

The Big One

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 22, 2010

During the NFL season, there are several games that can be big ones for teams. Division games. Games to clinch a play off spot or a division title. Games to clinch home field advantage in the post season. The upcoming Monday night game is just such a game - the big one.

The Atlanta Falcons face off against in division rival New Orleans Saints at home on Monday night. The Falcons have already clinched their spot in the playoffs with an amazing 12 and 2 record on the season. The Saints are still hanging in and have an opportunity to make the playoffs as well. With a win over the... (more)

Kings Of The League

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 21, 2010

On any given Sunday, any NFL team can become kings of the league. Sometimes it's with a memorable play. Sometimes it's with an upset win. And sometimes, it's for an epic comeback for the ages. The Philadelphia Eagles had one such comeback vs the Giants and with it became kings of the league for a day.

The Giants had dominated the game for almost 4 quarters. Three quarters and 8 minutes to be exact. They had held the Eagles down throughout most of the game. They had sacked Michael Vick 3 times. Vick had thrown an interception. The Eagles looked for all intents and purposes as... (more)

Concussions, Goodell, and Walk Outs

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 17, 2010

A new report has come out that there are even more concussions in the NFL this season than before. Despite the rules on "illegal hits" more players are getting concussions. In the 21st century, we can almost rebuild an entire human with prosthetics, bionics, and transplants and yet no one is able to make a better football helmet. Hard to believe, and yet it is true. Aaron Rogers suffered his 2nd concussion and by all accounts a pretty bad one as he spent the Monday after the game in bed from hitting his head on the ground. Not from an illegal hit, but for his head hitting the ground.... (more)

Those Who Can't

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 15, 2010

There are the teams that can and do and then there are those who seemingly can't and don't. This NFL season has been one of surprise and unpredictability. There are a few teams who just can't seem to get it together, some despite a lot of hype and a lot of talent.

The New York Jets - They started out great. The sports media was all over them like white on rice claiming how great they were. They had plenty of bluster and they backed it up some of the time. Most of the time though, they got lucky with last minute wins and then they got plastered by the Patriots. They lost the next... (more)

Those Who Can Do

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 13, 2010

There are some NFL teams that seem to be ahead of the curve this season and some who were hyped to be ahead of the game, but as time goes on we see they are just not all that. Those who can do and those who can't - don't make it to the playoffs.

The New England Patriots are far and away the best team in football. They have beaten several of the "so called" top teams. They were counted out when they started the season with their young defense. They were counted out when they traded away star receiver Randy Moss. The one thing that people never take into account is that you can never... (more)

The Streak

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 10, 2010

In the NFL, Brett Favre is once again the top story. Will he play this weekend? Will his consecutive games streak end? What about the Jen Sterger investigation now in the hands of Roger Goodell? Can Favre stay in the drama spotlight until the end of the season?

Brett Favre has allegedly had a lot of trouble throwing the ball this week. He has allegedly practiced little to none. Of course, I say allegedly because I believe that anything that comes out of Favre's and the Vikings mouths is subject to speculation. Favre has an insatiable need to be in the spotlight and this is just... (more)

All Show And No Stay

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 7, 2010

...you believe that he is. The Jets defense was about as porous as my kitchen sponge. The Patriots ran all over them, through them, over them. Brady had a perfect passer rating. The Jets defense got to Brady twice. He had almost 5 seconds to throw the ball. But this is the BEST team in the NFL, certainly the BEST team in the AFC. They do everything so great. They are unstoppable. They should get the Super Bowl trophy now right? I don't think so.

It makes it much more difficult to be all bluster and jokes when your team gets bombed 45-3 on Monday Night Football. It makes it... (more)
