NFC Championship Predictions

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 20, 2011

I know, I really should stop predicting anything given my record thus far in the playoffs. I am currently 2 and 6. That's right, I've gotten 2 games right thus far. Yet, I persist. Maybe it's because I don't like to be wrong and I think if I keep on the odds are I will eventually get something right! Regardless, I am pressing on this time with the NFC Championship game.

The Green Bay Packers are peaking at just the right moment. They found a running game at just the right moment. They found a team in the Falcons that let them run and pass at will. It has to boost their confidence... (more)

Favre Retires ... Again

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 18, 2011

Brett Favre has filed his retirement papers with the NFL...again. He did this the last time he retired as well and we all know how that ended up. I am in the camp of people who will not believe Favre is retired until the first regular season game of 2011 is played. Filing of papers means nothing....in the Favre world of being anyway. Besides, if he retires half of the sports media will need to get new jobs as he has been their only job for years now.

Favre also stated that he thinks the Packers will go to the Super Bowl and win it. He stated he thinks that Green Bay is by far the... (more)

Who To Cheer For

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 17, 2011

Well, all of my teams are now out of the playoffs. After having absolutely outstanding seasons, two of the best in the NFL, the Falcons and Patriots are both eliminated on their first game of the playoffs. It was beyond disappointing to say the least. Now, I am left with 4 teams in the championship round and none of them are teams I want to cheer for.

The Packers are the team that put my Falcons out of the playoffs. I've never been a Packers fan as they are direct competition for my team. I admire Aaron Rogers and think he's one of the best QBs in the game. But I just can't see... (more)

What Went Wrong

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 17, 2011

Just about everything - for the Falcons that is. They did every possible thing wrong that a team can do. While the Packers played very well, they had help from the Falcons to win the game, and lots of it. After a winning season, a 1st place post season seed, the Falcons come out of the playoffs beaten down by the Packers to the tune of 48 to 21.

The Falcons had the week bye and some people will put the loss on the fact that they were "rusty." That's just not the case. Any team that gets to the playoffs is not going to be rusty if they have the first week bye. They aren't sitting... (more)

Talk Is Cheap

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 13, 2011

The Jets continue to talk, talk, talk in the lead up to the game versus the Patriots this weekend. Their coach talks. Their players talk. But they did this the last time the two teams met and the outcome on the field did not benefit the Jets. I don't think it's going to help them this time either.

The Jets have made a career of talking. They started the season off talking on HBO. They gained a reputation as a team that talks trash and profanities. They kept building this reputation throughout the season. Their meeting with the Patriots in December was proceeded by much talk.... (more)

0 For

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 10, 2011

So, I should probably never be allowed to pick another NFL game outcome or I should be given a job immediately as an NFL talking head....either way I went 0 for 4 in my playoff picks this weekend. Let's examine why.

Seattle over the Saints. Now, I am far and away not the only person to pick the Saints. I think just about everyone in America, outside of Seahawks fans, picked the Saints to win. Not too many expected a 7 and 9 team to beat the defending Super Bowl champions. But beat them they did. The Saints were reduced to an even more one dimensional team when the running backs... (more)

Playoffs Day 2

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 4, 2011

The playoffs march into Sunday with two games. One that could be a blow out and one that could be one of the best games of the year. You never know how these things will play out though and the unexpected can happen more than you think.

In the first game on Sunday, we have the Ravens vs the Chiefs. The Ravens have played like a team without a rudder a lot of the season. They have won big, come up big, and then fallen flat. Their defense with Ed Reed is still one of the best in the league. It's their offense where they are a bit shaky. Joe Flacco is a quarterback along the lines... (more)

Playoffs?! Playoffs?!

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 4, 2011

The first weekend of the NFL playoffs gets underway on Saturday. The wildcard weekend with some wild matchups or at least unexpected ones. The reigning Super Bowl champ Saints have to play the first weekend and the perennial playoff team the Colts barely get in.

First up, the Colts vs Jets. The Colts barely get in and I think the Jets coach talked their way in. The Colts have suffered devastating losses due to injury this season. Every time you turned around another Colts player was out for the season. Peyton Manning has picked the team up and carried it for most of the season... (more)

In The Dance

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 4, 2011

Several spots for the NFL playoffs have yet to be decided as I write this blog, but some spots are already secured. Several teams have already gotten their tickets and are in the dance leading up to the big show.

In the AFC, the Patriots are the top of the league and have locked up their division and home field advantage. Tom Brady and the Patriots at home in the playoffs is not something many other teams want to see, but see it they shall. The road to the Super Bowl goes through Foxboro once again. The Patriots were all but written off at the beginning of the season and then again... (more)

Nothing To Lose

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 29, 2010

It's an old sports adage that played itself out last night in the Eagles/Vikings game. A team with nothing left to lose is a team you need to be afraid of. The Eagles definitely were not scared enough and now they are the 3 seed for the playoffs and no home field advantage.

The Eagles came out looking sluggish. They looked as if they were still frozen from the Philly snowstorm. Vick got a contusion of his quad on the first play of the game and played limping all night. But that wasn't the Eagles main problem. They came into this game not coached up enough to fear the Vikings and... (more)
