AFC Championship Predictions

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 20, 2011

The AFC matchup this weekend is a rematch of the same two teams on December 19. On that day, the Jets came out on top 22 to 17. In that game, there were a lot of things that will have an effect in the upcoming game as well. I don't look for the same game, but I do look for a close final score.

The Jets are coming off a huge win over the Patriots. One in which they talked trash relentlessly in the lead up to the game. They took some new defensive schemes into the game and had the Patriots offense confused from the start. I look for them to do the same defensive things versus the... (more)

Who To Cheer For

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 17, 2011

Well, all of my teams are now out of the playoffs. After having absolutely outstanding seasons, two of the best in the NFL, the Falcons and Patriots are both eliminated on their first game of the playoffs. It was beyond disappointing to say the least. Now, I am left with 4 teams in the championship round and none of them are teams I want to cheer for.

The Packers are the team that put my Falcons out of the playoffs. I've never been a Packers fan as they are direct competition for my team. I admire Aaron Rogers and think he's one of the best QBs in the game. But I just can't see... (more)

What Went Wrong

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 17, 2011

Just about everything - for the Falcons that is. They did every possible thing wrong that a team can do. While the Packers played very well, they had help from the Falcons to win the game, and lots of it. After a winning season, a 1st place post season seed, the Falcons come out of the playoffs beaten down by the Packers to the tune of 48 to 21.

The Falcons had the week bye and some people will put the loss on the fact that they were "rusty." That's just not the case. Any team that gets to the playoffs is not going to be rusty if they have the first week bye. They aren't sitting... (more)

Playoffs?! Playoffs?!

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 4, 2011

The first weekend of the NFL playoffs gets underway on Saturday. The wildcard weekend with some wild matchups or at least unexpected ones. The reigning Super Bowl champ Saints have to play the first weekend and the perennial playoff team the Colts barely get in.

First up, the Colts vs Jets. The Colts barely get in and I think the Jets coach talked their way in. The Colts have suffered devastating losses due to injury this season. Every time you turned around another Colts player was out for the season. Peyton Manning has picked the team up and carried it for most of the season... (more)

Best Of The Best

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 28, 2010

... and at times display actual brilliance. Saying that a team is the absolute best in the league or division is a huge generality and rarely tells the whole story. Teams can be the best at any given time or situation, but they can also all display faults that can lose them ball games.

In the NFC, the best of the best from the sports media seems to change on a game by game basis. It all depends on who wins and by how much, but that doesn't mean they are the overall best of the division. It just means they won that day. The Eagles were the best when they beat the Giants. The Falcons... (more)

Really Cowboys?!

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 26, 2010

The Cowboys are just a mess. They just cannot seem to get anything together. I have my own thoughts as the reasons why and I think I'm right for the part. I also think that unless big changes are made, the Cowboys stay mired in the dregs of the NFL for a good long time.

The Cowboys have some extremely talented players. But you would never know it by the way they play most of the time. I think that the Cowboys have 3 problems. One, Jerry Jones. The owner is just too involved in the day to day activities. He cannot let the team evolve as it is with the players and the coaches.... (more)

Kings Of The League

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 21, 2010

On any given Sunday, any NFL team can become kings of the league. Sometimes it's with a memorable play. Sometimes it's with an upset win. And sometimes, it's for an epic comeback for the ages. The Philadelphia Eagles had one such comeback vs the Giants and with it became kings of the league for a day.

The Giants had dominated the game for almost 4 quarters. Three quarters and 8 minutes to be exact. They had held the Eagles down throughout most of the game. They had sacked Michael Vick 3 times. Vick had thrown an interception. The Eagles looked for all intents and purposes as... (more)

Those Who Can't

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 15, 2010

...his 2009 self. The Vikings dropped like a rock and now with Favre out maybe for the rest of the season, the Vikings look to finish at the bottom of their division. They fired their coach, but if they had benched Favre several weeks ago, they might not be where they are now.

The Entire NFC West - Is there a worse division in all of football? These teams are mediocre - all of them. They might win or they might not win and a team that wins 7 or 8 games may make the playoffs and get home field advantage. It's fairly pathetic when the team at the top has a 6 and 7 record....not... (more)

Those Who Can Do

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 13, 2010

...They were counted out when they traded away star receiver Randy Moss. The one thing that people never take into account is that you can never count the Patriots out as long as Brady is healthy. They went into Chicago and dismantled the Bears in a blizzard. The Bears, who are on top of the NFC North, and who people think are so great. No, the Patriots are great. They are balanced - running and passing. They go long and they go over the middle. The defense is playing great football. And Tom Brady is Tom Brady. Those who can do.

The Atlanta Falcons are now 11 and 2 and are... (more)

NFL Games To Watch Week 9

By Deborah Horton, published on Nov 3, 2010

Two matchups this weekend that are going to be excellent – or at least they look like they will on paper. One is for dominance of both the NFC South and possibly the entire NFC and the other is a smash mouth fight for the AFC West.

In the NFC South, the Falcons are currently on top of the standings just above the Buccaneers by virtue of standings in the division with the Falcons at 1-0 and the Bucs at 1-1. The Bucs have been making a lot of noise about how they are the best team in the entire NFC, while the Falcons have just been going about their business….more under the radar. The... (more)
