Contributing to Change: How You Can Make a Difference

By Sandra Morton, published on Feb 16, 2014

While money is a definite motivator for the American worker, most people need to believe that the work they are doing is also making a positive difference in the world around them. In lieu of that, most people need a volunteer outlet or some other way to know that the space they are taking up on the planet is space that is being well-used.

Whether you’re a college student wondering whether or not a graduate school program is the right one to help you meet your aspirations, or you’re a seasoned working veteran who needs a change that will fulfill your heart but you can’t also... (more)

The Pursuit of Perfection and the Thrill of Victory!

By Jedo Kingsman, published on Feb 9, 2014

...real steering mechanism and their face inches from the ground seems surreal... or downhill racers going at similar speeds on two high tech beams at the hairy edge between control and disaster... it makes you wonder what drives them to put everything on the line with such rare abandon. While motivations vary and are often deeply personal, attaining the 'perfect run' and experiencing the 'thrill of victory' is one common fuel that keeps them focused and driven. There is something in us that longs for perfection, whether we experience it ourselves or see it in others.

Why Motivation is required to Reach Your Goals

By NolanGrayson, published on Jan 19, 2014

Motivation” is a word commonly used. It is a word that gets thrown around a lot. Most often people associate motivation with something positive but, in fact, it does not always encompass positive emotions. Fear is an effective motivating factor for many people. Stress is an example of how negative emotions trigger undesirable results. Many people freeze, break down, or panic when they are stressed--thus demonstrating a negative response to the motivation. However, someone who works harder and smarter to overcome the stress uses positive actions in response to that negative motivation.

Light at the end o' the Tunnel

By Rahul, published on Mar 23, 2013

Anytime it feels like

can’t move on anymore

all hope is lost, or

there is no light at

the end of the tunnel.

Try helping someone,

someone random.

For it’s not what you get

but what you become that

matters in the end.

For if your thoughts define you,

then it’s your deeds that

build you slowly but surely.

And soon u will realise,

the light at the end o' the tunnel

was, all along within.

By John Vespasian, published on Jun 24, 2012

If you wish to become a poet, I can give you some clues, but please take your heart medication before you read this through, since it contains some strong truths.First, you have to realize that nobody cares about what you want to be, so don't go around complaining that you are misunderstood. Artistic sensitivity is fine, but please keep it to yourself, since there is already too much noise in the world.Second, you should just start writing poetry and do not ask anyone for permission. If you do happen to ask someone for permission, you most likely won't even get a response. Again, it's... (more)

Action: the neglected pillar of success

By ranfuchs, published on Apr 22, 2011

...30, you had not discovered your gift for maths.

Taking up swimming to improve your fitness or a university maths course as a pastime may enhance your life and give you purpose and enjoyment. However, in all probability, unrealistic objectives will only lead to frustration and loss of motivation. It’s not the action itself that will fail you, but rather the way you misperceive your ability. Clear perception is imperative.

Making action work for you

So you have set yourself a goal and, as you’re being true to yourself, you realise that it will not be an... (more)
