...so I decided that a trip to the Anime Expo might be an interesting experience. So, I got my media credentials for the 3 days I would be there, then it was game on.
As a person who has maybe watched an hour of Anime in my life, I walked around for 3 hours with my jaw to the floor. The Los Angeles Convention Center won the largest Anime Expo in North America from Anahiem. There seemed to be a benefit to the hosts because they had their largest crowd ever at 43,000.
What is it that would bring that many people out on a holiday weekend? Many dressed in costumes that would give... (more)
... cheers, perforated only by the mechanical jingle of change, we made our way to the $6.99 Breakfast Buffet.
It was here over hash-browns-from-a-box, fridge-flavored eggs and piles of crispy bacon that I saw my first Polynesian family (I’ve seen the odd individual) since living in Los Angeles. Having joined six tables together to accommodate a large (in every way) party, they made me miss my family. I deducted that my sighting must be a result of the fact that we were on the side of Highway 15 which takes you north into Salt Lake City, Utah. Compared to Los Angeles’ 0.16%... (more)
...consensus seemed to go by way of Kyochon Chicken.By the way, with all these myriad of spicy, garlicky, savory flavors in our mouth, we ended our foray with Korean Fried Chicken with the refreshing Korean shaved ice desserts at Ice Kiss, right next door to Bon Chon. ...train a rabbit and keep it inside the house, much like a little dog. This person's mom had one for several years. And because my heart yearned to have a little dog, but my pragmatic self knew that I didn't have the time to really take care of one, I was sold!
Most of us in Los Angeles live in apartments and therefore we have no backyard. It then becomes mandatory for those who have dogs to walk them about 2-3 times a day. As much as I love dogs, I know that I wouldn't be able to commit to such a routine.
But with a potty-trained rabbit, a person like myself... (more)

You’ve probably seen the newly posted signs along the freeways: “Report Drunk Drivers Call 911”. Well, as I was driving home today on one of the many Los Angeles County Freeways, I noticed someone driving in a manner that suggested he was partaking of a beverage that should not be consumed while careening down the highway at 70+ miles per hour – and yes, driver, if you’re reading this, I did take note of the license plate number of your gray Toyota Celica.
I have my obligatory headset as required by California’s stupid new hands-free phone law and I dialed 911 to report this driver.... (more)
... at all, it could get interesting.
Maybe I’m dreaming, but who knows? Stranger things have happened, last night’s game being a prime example.
This account of the game appeared on www.cbssportsline.com:
Jered Weaver and Jose Arredondo combined to no-hit the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night -- and it still wasn't good enough for the Los Angeles Angels.
The Dodgers became the fifth team in modern major league history to win a game in which they didn't get a hit, defeating the Angels 1-0. Weaver's error on a slow roller led to an unearned run by ... (more)
...Georgia where crime dropped 89% after the passing of a 1982 city ordinance requiring the head of every household in the city to possess a firearm and related ammunition. To give a bit of persepctive, Kennesaw is now considered a suburb of Atlanta -- much like Pasadena is a suburb of Los Angeles.
Liberals and anti-gun whiners cried at the ruling by the Supreme Court saying they are disappointed. The mayor of Washington, Adrian Fenty believes that allowing private citizens to have guns will lead to more gun violence. Simply, that kind of head-in-the-sand logic thinks that... (more)

...toward her ears. This is pretty gruesome stuff. Unfortunately, in our world today, mutilated bodies are becoming more commonplace than they should be, which can definitely lead to a lot of desensitization. In 1947, when Elizabeth's body was found in that state, it sent shock waves through Los Angeles and eventually launched a manhunt unlike any other. Interestingly enough, the Esotouric Tour was more than just about the sensational aspect of this grizzly murder. It really touched on walking in the steps of Elizabeth Short up to when she disappeared. From the time we boarded the bus... (more)
I've lived here all my life, so, my opinion is probably biased. In fact, I was born in Hollywood, CA, USA probably the most famous suburb of Los Angeles there is. The thing I like about LA is that it's extremely diverse, or to put more simply, just plain big. Of course, this may be a function of the county as opposed to the city itself.
This may be a matter of perspective. I live about ten to fifteen minutes south of LAX depending on which lights I miss, in one of the beach towns. But when I tell someone I meet online where I live, I usually just say, "LA." Of course, their followup... (more)
