3 Words You Should Use To Gain Insight During An Interview

By Karthik Selvaraj, published on Dec 10, 2013

I love articles on career advice and interviews. A few years ago, it was both a shock and a revelation to me when I learned that an interview is not just the recruiter firing away questions at a candidate, instead it is a constructive dialog between the two parties. An interview is a short process. As much as a company wants to size their candidate up quickly, the candidate also needs to learn about the company.

To help gain insights about each other, three simple words you can use during the interview are: "Tell Me More."

Or some variant of it. Here are my thoughts.

Mischief - Prose

By JennyT, published on Sep 17, 2013

sounds of revelry

the night

split skirts

ride high on corners

trading skin for money

eyes of youth through

windows stare to lie on backs

open legs - knees bent

~ but never kiss

the lowly have it tougher

battering or death, risks

lined up on the street

calling 'honey what you want'

are they empty

the little girls they were

and how they sell themselves

exhibiting their wares

but who am I to judge

the top girls don't have... (more)

Nobody but the Brave

By Caballero_69, published on Aug 24, 2013

Tonight as the darkness falls

I'm thinking back fondly to 1963 And the way our lives and outlook used to be As the hallowed words come back to me From TV shows, the voices ring out In quite moments when the silence can nearly shout I recall how we would walk and, talk about What we had to do so the dream would work out

You said: Nobody but the brave Nobody but the brave Those alone are strong enough to save Something from what everybody gave

Nobody but the brave Nobody but the brave

It seems these nights I see you again my friend The way you looked way back then... (more)

A “Perk” By Any Other Name

By DKIdea, published on Jun 18, 2013

...situation...highlighted by the hater mentality of someone getting something that you are not...and I don’t buy into it. If you really want that type of perk, then run for state office...and win. If you really can’t understand the idea of having certain perks attached to certain positions or jobs...then welcome to the real world. How long have you been here?

Then there was this story I saw on the news. Apparently there are some Massachusetts State police and local Boston police bypassing the toll coming back into the city. Whoa. Stop the press. You mean to tell me that they are... (more)

Apple introduces iPhone 5 and new iPod

The all new iPhone 5 has been introduced by Apple CEO, Tim Cook earlier today. Will Voters Punish GOP for Punishing the American People?

By Josh Marks, published on Jul 6, 2012

Republicans are the problem. That is the conclusion of the excellent new tome “It’s Even Worse Than It Looks: How the American Constitutional System Collided With the New Politics of Extremism” by congressional scholars Thomas E. Mann and Norman J. Ornstein. Mann is a liberal from the Brookings Institution and Ornstein is a conservative from the American Enterprise Institute, so they can hardly be accused of a partisan agenda.

“It’s Even Worse Than It Looks” labels today’s GOP as an “insurgent outlier” in American politics that “contributes disproportionately to its dysfunction.” The... (more)

The Sundown Laws of the 1930's

By Patricia Adams, published on Mar 4, 2012

...people, like the Black maids who work in the big houses in the Rossmoyne district up near the country club. “If they’re not out of town before sundown, they’re harassed by the police, and sometimes they’re picked up and dropped at the city limits. Some of them even lose their jobs!”

Mama knows first hand how much a job means to poor people.

One night about dusk, Mama and I are on the bus, headed home to south Glendale after a visit to our old neighborhood in Montrose. The bus driver is driving as though he is in a hurry. When we get to the Rossmoyne... (more)
