...by so many Western governments, an altogether better prospect than the wild men of Hamas, the terrorist thugs who control the enclave of Gaza, the other face of Palestine.
Ah, but let’s have a closer look at this man of peace, let’s put him under the spotlight, let’s see what the Israelis are faced with. Ecce homo; always, always behold the man.
Robert Bernstein, one of the founders of Human Rights Watch, knows exactly what Abbas represents, no matter that he has been lauded by the ignorant, most often dictatorial, governments of the earth. Writing recently in the... (more)
“What’s the petition for?” I asked Jane.
“It’s for the children of Gaza. They suffer in the war with Israel …. If you want, you can give donation too.” She guided me around the corner where three English-looking women in their twenties were chatting up some young guys from behind two small tables. Posters were stapled to the front of this makeshift stall. “Support the children of Gaza,” read one. “End the Siege on Gaza,” said another.
A few hundred demonstrators packed the court. Many held banners stained with blood marks for a background: “Stop the genocide in Gaza”,... (more)
...the United Nations marks the liberation of Auschwitz only to play host to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the world’s leading Holocaust-denier, president of the clerical-fascist state of Iran.
What irony there is in the pious platitudes of an international body that has consistently marginalised Israel while condoning the actions of its enemies, particularly the terrorist anti-Semites of Hamas. In a period of forty years some 30% of the resolutions condemning specific states have been directed against Israel. How much has been directed, I wonder, against North Korea, against Zimbabwe, against ... (more)
... you have ended up; in one of the more luxurious Mediterranean resorts, perhaps? Go out on the balcony and have a look around. See; there; just to the south of where you are standing, the Hamas training camp should give you a clue. Hamas; what, the terrorist group dedicated to the destruction of Israel? Yes, Hamas; for this is Gaza and the hotel is the al-Mashtal, recently refurbished at a cost of $40 million.
Once you’ve recovered from the shock you might care to wander around Gaza City. I feel sure you will be surprised by just how well-stocked the stores are, or by the... (more)
I said on my recent blog on Israel (Fighting the Battle of Ideas) that the country was losing the war of the narratives; that it was failing to present its case to the world as effectively as it should, as effectively as it once did. One of the respondents made the point that it did not matter what the country said or did; for all purposes it had already been judged and found guilty. I’ve been thinking about this quite hard. While I can sympathise on a human level with the plight of the Palestinians, on a political level I consider them to be the most deluded and ill-served people on earth;... (more)
...account the comments that caused Helen Thomas, who some consider the first lady of journalism, to end her career. Helen Thomas: The Truth Backed By HistoryOn May 27, 2010 as Helen made her way into the White House, someone representing RhabbiLIVE.com asked Helen if she had any comments about Israel. Her comments were as follows:Helen Thomas: "Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine. Remember these people are occupied and it's their land..not German. It's not Poland."And why would Helen suggest Israelis get out of Palestine? To answer this, you have to know your history. What History... (more)
...us sitting on the couches and chairs, eating dinner. A few girls hands shot up and a few groaned. I silently finished my food and mentally scanned my closet to pick an outfit for tonight. She had to ruin it by making me feel guilty, someone always had to ruin it, I thought.
I was in Israel to grow, to become religiously attached and educated to "my religion". The prior year I succeeded and got to a level I never thought that I could. However summer happened and it threw me back; not to mention my school gave us more freedom. I chose this school because it was strict, as I know... (more)
Today was my last day being Dylan's nanny. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to miss him. We've been through so much during the last 9 months. Dylan was dignosed with autism when he was two and a half, he's seven now.
We met in Israel, by an ice cream store that his mom and I agreed to meet at. I found her ad on a website saying she needed a live in nanny for her baby while she attends school with her other son, Dylan. I got the job on the spot, we just clicked. So every day I'd watch Brady, the baby. As time went on though I grew a strong connection with Dylan. I really never thought... (more)
Hamas gunmen have killed four Israeli civilians, but not in their Gaza constituency, in the West Bank as a prelude to peace talks this week in Washington DC. The crime casts an ominous pall over the confab, and further illustrates the difficulty in establishing anything other than a state of anarchy in the occupied territories.
Stanley Kubrick's controversial film, A Clockwork Orange, symbolized a world gone mad and increasingly anarchic...something like it is today when how we think things should be aren't that way, when right is wrong and left is right. There's probably no better example... (more)
An international group of leading politicians, business and thought leaders have formed a new group called “Friends of Israel Initiative”. As the name suggests, the purpose of the group is to support Israel. The support for Israel is different than what one would expect. Its stated goal is to bring reason and decency back to the discussion of Israel which in some circles is considered a pariah.
The group is composed of prominent individuals from both western democracies and third world countries. The list includes leaders from the U.S. (John Bolton, former ambassador to the United Nations... (more)
