Homeless on Skid Row: Is it a Lost Cause?

By C. Reagan, published on Sep 30, 2006

...may seem to have the right idea. Where else can a person live on the streets and hope that Paris Hilton will take time from her busy schedule and drop a C-Note in your lap? It never snows, hardly rains, and anyone could be “discovered” if enough time is spent strutting around Hollywood and its surrounding palm tree lined streets. The reality of being homeless, like everything else in Los Angeles, isn’t always as it seems. The homeless issue in LA County has reached epidemic proportions. According to The Institute for the Study of Homelessness and Poverty, an... (more)

Cruising Down Miracle Mile

By Josh Marks, published on Sep 20, 2006

...However, in the 1980s the area started to make a comeback with the arrival of several museums and high-rise office complexes. Also, the entertainment industry established a presence along the Miracle Mile, including the Screen Actors Guild and the trade magazines — Variety and the Hollywood Reporter. One of the most recognizable landmarks in Los Angeles is the still-bubbling La Brea Tar Pits, which is next to the Page Museum (5801 Wilshire Blvd.; www.tarpits.org), with an extensive collection of Ice Age fossils. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (5905 Wilshire Blvd.;... (more)

Dodgers hit four straight homers in comeback win

By Marquis McClure, published on Sep 19, 2006

...to make it 9-5. About half the crowd remained for the bottom of the ninth, which began with tepid applause for Jeff Kent, who led off the inning. Tepid applause soon turned into a warm reception, as Kent led off with his 14th homer. That homer would ignite an offensive explosion for the Hollywood Swingers. Kent's homer was followed with one by Drew, both off San Diego reliever Jon Adkins. Padre closer Trevor Hoffman was brought in to put the kibosh on the Dodger rally, but ended up blowing his first save against L.A. in five years, giving up back-to-back homers to catcher Russell... (more)

Misery Loves ... Relief! Beatle Paul McCartney Seeks Yoga

By PopNet, published on Sep 18, 2006

...in The Hamptons in New York along with actor Alec Baldwin. Yoga is designed to provide "a balanced and wholesome approach to achieving perfect physical and mental health, happiness and tranquillity" and a pal said that McCartney, who has been attending the classes three times a week, turned to yoga to help him cope with the stress that he has been under over his divorce the past few months. Alec Bladwin has had ongoing stress over custody battles for his daughter with Hollywood beauty, actress Kim Bassinger. In this case it seems misery doesn't love company but it loves relief.

Irreversible, Irresistible

By Jesse Lee, published on Sep 16, 2006

I recently came a across a small gem, hidden amongst the other “foreign” films carelessly tossed on a secluded shelf, collecting dust. I have usually been forced to buy certain hard to find movies before ever seeing them because the local Hollywood Video has a more main stream selection. The cover was quite striking and that is usually a good precursor. The word Irreversible runs vertically down the left side of the cover with a woman standing to the right of it. That woman was what caught my attention. In front of a black backdrop, cast in shadow, staring, longingly maybe, off into the distance.... (more)

Hidden Treasure on Third Street!

By C. Reagan, published on Sep 11, 2006

... stay on top of the perverbial "heap". Although, I am the first to rush out and experience the hip new hotspots, its a welcome relief to have staples in the everyday routine that you can depend on to always come through with consistency. "Who's on Third", a quaint cafe nestled in between West Hollywood and Beverly Hills at 8369 W. 3rd Street is such an establishment. Boasting open doors since 1989, "Who's.." has become a kind of hidden treasure to the locals that wander in daily for a wide variety of food and drink. Plus, it's one of the only places in LA that offers free wire-less... (more)

Paris Hilton can't drink

By Ariel, published on Sep 7, 2006

Paris Hilton was arrested this morning at 1am and charged with driving under the influence. She was spotted by LAPD officers driving her Mercedes McLaren SLR in a very erratic way. Her publicist Eliott Mintz told the press that she only had one drink - a margarita - before leaving a charity event she was attending in Hollywood. She was taken to the Hollywood police station after she blew a .08. She was released an hour and a half later. I guess when you weigh 110lb, you'd better drink martini by the spoon rather than a full glass. Cheers! (more)

Walkin in WeHo....

By C. Reagan, published on Aug 30, 2006

...don't believe me). I am one of the many migrators who has made the cross-country trip to the place where dreams come true. Two friends and I quit our fabulous jobs in St. Louis, Missouri, packed up a couple compact vehicles, signed a lease on an overpriced, un-airconditioned apartment in West Hollywood and as they say, the rest is history!!!! Then three weeks went by..... While blogging on myspace has led the folk back home to believe I am leading a fabulous lifestyle in Hollywood, the truth is a bit more complicated...... My roommmates and I have gotten used to no AC. The single fan we... (more)

Elijah Wood on Main Street

By Ariel, published on Aug 28, 2006

...restaurant, around 10pm. A group of about 10 people was gathered around him and he was chatting with them and seemed very friendly. It was unclear if they were friends or just fans of Frodo, the hobbit of the Lord of the Rings. He looked really down to earth and laid back, not really Hollywood style "I'm-better-than-everyone-and-I'm-gonna-show-it", which is much appreciated. I was expecting him to be very short, but I guess he is actually much taller than a hobbit. I was also expecting him to have hairy feet but it didn't seem to be the case either. Elijah Wood lives in... (more)

Open Water... Can't They Make an Interesting Movie About Sharks?

By Noa, published on Aug 15, 2006

...the viewer through every boring conversation and every tedious, uneventful minute of the character's day, so he can imagine himself leading the life of the character by really immersing himself in the character's life. While this has its good points, (it's a far cry from the other extreme in Hollywood: complete over-dramatization with louder explosions and more hard-core scenes than should be appropriate in a Kung Fu porno film), it just lacks the heart that movies used to have. I know this is a gross generalization and, being completely non-artsy I have no good video jargon with which... (more)
