2010 NHL Season So Far

By Deborah Horton, published on Nov 12, 2010

The NHL season is well underway and the conference standings are starting to take shape. There are several teams that have taken over the top spots, but several more are close behind and gaining ground.

In the Eastern Conference the top looks like this:

Washington 11-4, Philadelphia 9-4, Montreal 9-5. Washington has a 5 game win streak going and are 7-3 for their last 10 games. Philadelphia is 7-2-1 for their last 10 and Montreal is 6-4. Washington at the moment seems to have this conference well in hand.

The next tier in the Eastern Conference looks like this:

Levi Blues

By Glenn T, published on Jul 21, 2009

...Of course, one look at Levi and the shine soon faded on that fantasy. If I were to ask you to close your eyes and imagine the type of young man that at 18 would knock up a 17 year old girl in Wasilla, Alaska (population, 10,000), in between his highest aspirations of becoming a professional hockey player (despite not being recruited to play college hockey anywhere), hunting moose and working as a carpenter, you wouldn't need to see a picture of him. Because he is exactly that guy. So to review, Levi Johnston is famous for being the useless, wanna-be bad boy cum carpenter who was... (more)

Selling A House In A Buyers Market

By Chance Gates, published on Apr 27, 2009

...a house has really changed in the last few years.  A seller use to be able to put an ad in the newspaper or magazine to create interest in his property.  Now only about 20% of home buyers go to a newspaper or magazine before buying a house.  Wayne Gretzky once said “A great hockey player skates to where the puck is going”.  In real estate that is also true, a seller needs to advertise where the buyers are going.  That is the internet; over 80% of buyers start their search by looking at houses on line.  A seller should get his house on as many web-sites as... (more)

Many In Body, One In Mind

By wolviela, published on Nov 5, 2008

...fortunate to have grown up in California, Oakland to be exact, which allowed me to interact with many diverse cultures and look at people as good or bad. As I look back, I just started school in a fairly new era of non-segregation. My best friend at 8 years old was black boy who played ice hockey. I thought it was cool he played ice hockey, not because the color of his skin.

What saddened me last night is that I believe I heard l that 81% percent of those whovoted didn't vote based on race and that 19% of those who voted did vote on race. For those 81% of you, congratulations on ... (more)

Sarah Stings Obama, While Wooing A Nation

By Amo, published on Sep 12, 2008

...question her qualifications.

“I guess a small town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibility”, quipped the 44-year old Governor.

What seemed apparent to everyone in the hall and across the nation was that this “hockey mom” is no fluke, she’s the real deal. A successful governor with an almost 80% approval rating within her home state, she’s a reformer and a wife and a mother of 5-children, she’s pro-life, and in that she practices what she believes.

Like her running mate,... (more)

Hanging Out On The Square, While I Still Can

By TCBlair, published on Jul 9, 2008

I am a member of Brouston (BrooWaha Houston) but call Dallas home. Unfortunately, there is not yet a Brallas or BrooWallas or DallaWaha (BrooWaha and Dallas are hard to "smashup"). More accurately McKinney, TX, northeast of Dallas, TX,is my home and I love it from its potential hockey rink (in Texas?) down to its old brick roadway that surrounds the old Courthouse where new plays are performed. I love that my city is big enough to attract business, hotels, bars, and a graduate program; yet small enough to boast quiet nights (away from the bars), minimal traffic, and only two starbucks. But... (more)

I Love L A...

By Batman, published on Jun 19, 2008

... argue that we speak American, or USAnian, myself included.

The Lakers fell short the other night, bringing an incredible dream, and season to a close. Onto baseball, and the Dodgers. We can still cheer for the LA Avengers Arena Football team. The Kings had an off year this year, but hockey starts up again in the fall. And almost fifteen years later, we don't really miss the Rams or Raiders as much as we probably should. You can be a sports fan year round in this town.

Sports not your thing? Entertainment can be had in the Entertainment capital of the world, LA. Don't... (more)

Some Birds Just Do Not Use Their Wings

By Justin, published on Jun 9, 2008

Hockey is the only sport I watch, and therefore the only sport I actually enjoy. The constant hitting, the teeth, the blood, the carnage, it reminds me of watching Hostel II for the third time in a row. Merely kidding, but it does invoke a respect and admiration for the athletes that are constantly moving, and are constantly getting checked into the boards.

To me, it is the only sport that doesn't have a huge fascination with its inner workings. People don't huddle around the screen for the NHL draft. "Woo, mom look the Pittsburgh Penguins are taking Plaxico Burress from... (more)

Why The Hatred For Hockey?

By Gary Schwind, published on Apr 19, 2008

The Stanley Cup Playoffs have begun, and for me this is always one of the most exciting sporting events of the year. I grew up sixty miles from Detroit, so I remember watching Hockey Night in Canada and not just when the playoffs began. To me, very few sporting events can match the excitement of an overtime hockey playoff game. However, I realize I am in the minority with that opinion. Colin Cowherd of ESPN Radio basically says that he ignores hockey because everyone else does. In a way, I get that. He seems like a very mass appeal sort of guy. Listening to his show, he only seems to like something... (more)
