Eyeless in Gaza

By Anastasia , published on Nov 23, 2012

An Indian user on Blog Catalogue raised the question of sides in the recent Gaza conflict. Apparently there was some concern in his country over the ‘disproportionate’ Israeli reaction to attacks by Hamas. This is my response.

You conclude your well-argued, balanced and reasonable perspective with a clear statement of principle: "Let's support the innocent people in both Palestine and Israel who wish to live a normal life like all others." How could I possibly fail to agree with those sentiments; how could anyone fail to agree? The latest news is that a ceasefire has been concluded,... (more)

A Defeat without a War

By Anastasia , published on Oct 20, 2011

...bitter cup which will be proferred to us year by year unless by a supreme recovery of moral health and martial vigour, we arise again and take our stand for freedom as in the olden time.

It was this, it was these words that came to me thinking about Israel’s deal with the terrorists of Hamas, by which Gilad Shalit, kidnapped and held prisoner illegally for five years, was released in return for 1000 militants, many of them serving life sentences for hideous crimes. The loyal and brave people of Israel, who fight day by day for survival, should also know the truth; that they, too,... (more)

Today I am an Israeli

By Anastasia , published on Jul 3, 2011

...on a political level I consider them to be the most deluded and ill-served people on earth; deluded in 1948, when, rather than accepting the two-state solution then on offer, they blundered into an ill-advised war, urged on them by the surrounding Arab states; deluded again in voting for Hamas, an organisation exercising ever more dictatorial control over the people it supposedly serves, an organisation that has brought upon them all of the misery of which they currently complain. I previously said that the Israelis suffered from a terrible siege mentality. Who can blame them for... (more)

Peace Talk Overture: Hamas Kills Four Israeli Civilians

By Dan Ehrlich, published on Aug 31, 2010

Hamas gunmen have killed four Israeli civilians, but not in their Gaza constituency, in the West Bank as a prelude to peace talks this week in Washington DC. The crime casts an ominous pall over the confab, and further illustrates the difficulty in establishing anything other than a state of anarchy in the occupied territories.

Stanley Kubrick's controversial film, A Clockwork Orange, symbolized a world gone mad and increasingly anarchic...something like it is today when how we think things should be aren't that way, when right is wrong and left is right. There's probably no better example... (more)

Initiative to Support Israel Poses Questions for Countries

By JJFCPA, published on Jul 8, 2010

...law through the 1947 U.N. resolution that created it. It is established on land that has had unbroken Jewish connections for thousands of years.

Third, it has the basic right to self defense as all countries do. This is all the more important as it is surrounded by terror groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.

Fourth, countries that oppose terrorist and radical Islam need to remember that Israel is on their side and is on the front line of that fight. The democratic world cannot sacrifice Israel to appease Islamism without losing their own battle eventually.

Fifth, the... (more)

Glaring Hypocrisy, Bloated Bureaucracy Plagues Israel

By Dan Ehrlich, published on Jun 6, 2010

...American sailors wouldn’t shoot-up a ship if they were attacked? Duh….But, who gets all the flack…who else, the Jews… a relatively small group who, through an historic tragedy, have long been history’s scapegoats, first from the right and now the left.

Israel is at war with Hamas. The people in Gaza support Hamas, therefore Israel is at war with the people of Gaza. That’s one way to rationalize any action taken. They have more than enough justification to search Gaza-bound ships.

First, all this blockading could end with a simple unconditional peace agreement.... (more)

We will face them with death.

By Deanna Meiresonne, published on Sep 26, 2007

Israel has recently declared the Hamas-led Palestinian government, considered by U.S. and the European Union to be terrorist, an "enemy entity (NYTimes.com, September 2007)". Hamas has taken this as a declaration of war: "We will not surrender and we will fight together with our people (NYTimes.com)." Although Jihad groups in Gaza claim responsibility for rocket attacks made on Israeli army bases, Israel holds Hamas accountable for not the preventing attacks. The Islamic Jihad have responded to the increased stronghold on Gaza by Israel: "We have God at our side and God is greather than... (more)
