Diet conversations I have are usually about psychology

By Lartinos, published on Mar 18, 2013

Everyone wants to know more information about dieting as there is a tremendous amount of ignorance in the world as how to properly run a diet. To get good and not great results you do not need to actually know all that much. It is common sense that sugar is indeed not good for dieting, but many people simply rationalize the decisions they make so their world makes sense on their own terms. I was once one of these people who were totally addicted to sugar and therefore blinded to the rationalizations that I made. Conquering weight loss can very often lead to other great changes in our life as... (more)

Take fiber or suffer the consequences

By Lartinos, published on Mar 15, 2013

Many people have heard that fiber is good for you, but why exactly is fiber so good for dieting and overall health? Studies have shown fiber decreases body weight, can possibly extend life expectancy, and may even increase muscle mass. Fiber also helps regulate our bowel movements as well; That means it will help you whether you are either constipated or suffering from diarrhea, something that everyone must deal with at some point. Just knowing the benefits of fiber does not fix the problem of having a shortage of this important nutrient, we must plan ahead or there is an excellent... (more)

How exactly do you read a nutritional label?

By Lartinos, published on Feb 13, 2013

...in one serving of the item you want to buy. The problem that people run into with this information comes down to whether or not the amount shown is actually a serving or not. Manufacturers will purposely put a smaller amount so that you are led to believe it has less carbohydrates and saturated fat than it really has. That is why it is especially important to check out how much a serving indeed is. From there you can judge exactly how many servings you will actually be eating and multiply the number if necessary. Purposely eating the small serving size given is also a great way to manage... (more)

Diet for the right reason and don't just

By Lartinos, published on Feb 4, 2013

Really think about why you are trying to lose this weight. Are you trying to lose this weight so you can buy yourself a gift at the end? Are you trying to lose this weight so you can treat yourself with an unhealthy food at the end? Too many of you out there forget the real benefit of losing the weight… is actually losing the weight. There is nothing wrong with treating yourself to something special. The problem is that people forget that the real joy is setting a goal that we really want and sticking to it. 10 Reasons you are not losing weight!

By Lartinos, published on Jan 28, 2013

...are for the most part ignorant of proper dieting.

5.Inability to deal with the truth: The smartest people are the ones that indeed know they really don’t know anything at all. Holding onto ignorant beliefs because you cannot come to terms with your ego is a very foolish reason to stay fat and unhealthy. Today is the day that you are going to hold yourself to a higher standard, stop the excuses and make it happen.

6. Feeling rushed and like we have no time to diet: It is a fact that many people live extremely active lives between working, family, and other responsibilities. ... (more)

Understanding nutritional labels is vital to losing weight

By Lartinos, published on Jan 3, 2013

...next. The sugar you just checked along with any other carbohydrates that are not sugar add up for your total carbohydrates. The most important difference between sugars and other carbohydrates lies in it’s effect on our insulin levels. The more the effect on our insulin levels, the more the fat we hold. We measure a carbohydrates effect on our blood sugar with the Glycemic Index (GI). You can easily google this list to see where certain carbohydrates are on it (I have also added the link for the GI at the bottom of my post). With that knowledge you can see where you may find surprises... (more)

Fruit can be bad for you!

By Lartinos, published on Jan 1, 2013

There I said it, I bet you haven’t heard that before. Hardcore dieters have known this for some time as they are well aware that fructose has a similarly bad effect on our bodies as table sugar. (Sucrose) If you are really serious about losing weight you must count every carb from fruit and make sure not to over do it. People only dieting for overall health and not to lose weight must also be aware of the sugar content of the fruits they eat. People falsely assume that the sugar in fruit is not bad for you. False! It has a negative effect on insulin levels when over consumed and can contribute... (more)

Combatting Childhood Obesity

By Ely North, published on Dec 5, 2012

Dear Ely,

I got beef with childhood obesity – it’s ruining my life. My son is a bona fide fat-ass. He’s only ten years old and he already weighs almost 200 pounds. His boobs are bigger than mine! It’s gross. He’s revolting to behold, and I’m concerned for his health. He never gets any exercise, and he only eats fast food and junk food. I’ve tried to guide him into healthier habits, but when he doesn’t get what he wants he throws a fit and sits on me. Once he actually broke my rib. I’m scared of the fat little monster, so I constantly give in and continue to enable his... (more)

Burn That Fat

By Lartinos, published on Dec 4, 2012

...aren’t they explaining it? That of course goes back to the profits they make on sugar.

What every child in school should learn growing up is that carbs, and especially sugar have a pronounced effect on our insulin levels. Insulin is your carrier hormone and without it you cannot store fat. By lowering your sugar and carbohydrate intake you are putting yourself in a position to reduce your current weight. The combination of misinformation distributed by society and by our government leads people to ignorantly get addicted to sugar. Addicted to sugar? Yes, that was not a typo as... (more)
