Halle is Berry Happy

By Credo, published on Oct 4, 2007

...After about 35 tests, we finally got a positive test." Halle says she found Gabriel just when she was not looking for anyone. "I had resigned myself to, 'I'm going to be single until I'm 50, at least, and I'll have a child on my own.' … I was really okay with that." Then while on a fashion shoot for a Versace ad, Halle met Gabriel, which made finishing the shoot difficult. "There were, like, just pheromones flying off the walls," she says. Halle says she loves that Gabriel has so much integrity. "He does what he says he's going to do. He's very honest. I've learned to really... (more)

Stand Up, Sit Down, Do Your Civic Duty

By Tina Dupuy, published on Oct 2, 2007

I consider myself to be a decent citizen. I vote. I recycle. I don't litter. I yield to most pedestrian traffic. But when I got a notice that I was selected for jury service at LA Superior Court, I did what every red-blooded American does - I wondered if I should pretend it got lost in the mail. "Notice? What notice? I've never seen a notice. Maybe this notice you speak of, maybe it had a little 'accident?'" The draft has been gone for over 30 years. Today if your'e like me, you consider "compulsory service" to be putting down a book to listen to a flight attendant go over the safety announcements... (more)

Tax Relief For Self-Employed Atlantans

By GreatMinds, published on Sep 28, 2007

The fourth quarter of 2007 will arrive this Monday in grand fall fashion, and with it the onset of holiday planning; for the self-employed (or any person who reports income via a Form 1099), holiday planning for 2007 should include year-end tax planning and forming strategies for 2008. One of the most truly financially dangerous myths that self-employed people in Atlanta (and everywhere else for that matter) may cling to is "my accountant takes care of my taxes." The average small-business owner overpays his or her taxes by more than $11,000.00, according to a study by the U.S. General Accounting... (more)

Computer Repair Problems and Solutions

By Credo, published on Sep 24, 2007

...files, moreover you would only have to replace the missing file NTLDR. Under the NTFS (New Technology Filing System) which allows the system to select a boot scenario and the boot process. I first tried to extract the file from the OS installation disk with no success. Next I used the old fashion method of replacing files by getting the file from another computer with the same OS system by copying the file to a floppy disk and then using that disk to replace the file in the non functioning system. I ran a virus scan on the floppy before installation to insure safe setup and then... (more)

Father-Daughter Dance to Spring Tea

By Carla, published on Sep 22, 2007

"Is this another "Chick Thing"?" That was my husband's way of telling me he didn't want to participate in whatever event I was signing him up for. ME: "It's her Senior year and school tradition is: Senior girls and DADS participate in the Fashion Show at the Spring Tea." Ha! I had him with the "school tradition" thing as he was steeped in traditions. This time, he was being hung by his own noose~ I smiled at my cleverness. HIM: "So this IS a chick thing?" ME: "It's a Dad & Daughter thi..". EEWW, I cringed. Before I could even get the words from my mouth, flashbacks came streaming from the... (more)

Ten Ways To Make Your Summer Last

By Venditto, published on Sep 17, 2007

...to capture the perfect wedding photo. On one recent trip I counted eight separate Asian brides. Creepy. Chick Fishing, 7th ave between 27th and 28th streets: Imagine a regular fishing trip. Only instead of a boat on a river, you're sitting on a park bench outside the student center of the Fashion Institute of Technology. And instead of a rod and reel you're armed with the complete works of Jane Austen and a well-worn copy of The Devil Wears Prada. Now, just camouflage yourself to look like an emotionally vulnerable lead guitarist in an emo band, (read: old school Chuck Taylor all... (more)

Valet? Or Not To Valet?

By 'Mean' Mike Duffau, published on Sep 9, 2007

... stolen from your vehicle is a result from lack of respecting your friendly valet. Don't even think about trying to pick up girls when you're a valet because chances are your not going to score her number or a date for that matter. The uniform of a valet needs a make-over to the extreme code of fashion. A valet doesn't look like America's Top Model or if you're a model you can not make the valet uniform work to your advantage. Girls with the same economic class as a valet won't give them a second look. That's just harsh if you ask me. That's life in the big city or I should say that's life... (more)

Sarkozy, or the man who has been told he is fashion!

By J.N. PAQUET, published on Aug 30, 2007

...sense of humor and ease. We like the Prada suit he wore to his inauguration, and we wouldn't change a thing about his wardrobe -- not even his jogging attire." (September 2007 issue) Problem being: Amy Fine Collins, if she does write in Vanity Fair, seems to pretend to know something about fashion when we can seriously doubt it! I don't know much about fashion myself, I admit it (but I don't write in a fashion magazine, or do I?), but when I recently had a look at some of Amy's pictures I got puzzled! Re-thinking what she said about Sarkozy, I can only conclude that: either she is... (more)

Friday Night Lights: Movie Review

By DLFerguson, published on Aug 30, 2007

...Whenever there’s a game, the entire town closes down to attend and the stadium looks about as big as Madison Square Garden. I dunno if it’s really like that in small towns but FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS convinced me that it is. I liked how the movie was told in an almost documentary fashion and didn’t pull any punches as far as showing the good and bad of small town high school football. For a lot of these boys, football is the only way they’re going to get a college education and get out of their town. This is indeed more than just a game to them. For most of... (more)

Another Gay Sunshine... Fall Lineup?

By C. Reagan, published on Aug 23, 2007

Fall is my favorite season! With the changing of the leaves comes an array of great new fashion, where even in Los Angeles we can appreciate the (ever so slight) cooler temperature to embrace a trendy jacket or must-have scarf But, Fall isn’t only a time for new fashion! Notoriously, this is the time that the most new television pilots are unleashed to the viewing masses to decide if they are worthy of our precious TiVo memory space. This year both cable stations and major networks are throwing open the door to gay roles and themes without the blink of an eye. Executive Producer Darren... (more)
