Call To Broowaha Creators: More Transparency Please

By travelingseth, published on Mar 19, 2008

Looking at my BrooWaha stats this morning, I saw that my latest article, Advertising: So Evil It's Good, wasn’t doing so hot. Whereas previous articles had garnered upwards of 500 hits, my latest attempt was stalling around 150. “Could this be due to a decrease in BrooWaha’s overall popularity”, my bruised ego wondered. Doubtful, but my curiosity was piqued. Just how popular is BrooWaha anyway? How many hits does the whole network get? Is it increasing or decreasing in popularity? Considering the amount of time I put into BrooWaha, this suddenly seemed like need to know information. I decided... (more)

The Broowaha Deathmatch Writers Bracket

By Glenn T, published on Mar 18, 2008

So here it is folks, the BrooWaha Deathmath... the genius of Bill Friday combined with my unimaginable lack of social options on St. Patty's day has bore this - another, less meaningful way to waste your time this tournament season. Eight (8) automatic bids – one for each of the top “Editions” of the Broo, awarded to the most read author in that division and twenty four (24) “at large” bids determined by the selection committee (consisting mostly of me). Selection critera was mostly the top twenty five (25) Broo writers ever - and some honorable mention folks... (more)

Stop Whining!

By icanluvulongtime, published on Mar 17, 2008

My first few articles on Broowaha were about men. The way we think and sometimes relate to women. Those were unappreciated articles by most, sharply critiqued and appeared to hit a nerve with the anonymous critics, some of who I personally know. Interesting. Anyway, I started writing about other subjects, not really for any other reason other than I know about some other things besides being male. There are those amongst you however that won’t let me forget my past and have challenged me to do it again. I got a lot of emails regarding my writing and recently one of my “fans” assailed... (more)

San Jose Sharks Streak: This One Goes To 11!

By Ed Attanasio, published on Mar 15, 2008 4-0 at 13:2

Evgeni Nabokov made 19 saves for his league-leading 41st win for the Sharks, allowing only a power-play goal by Backes 54 seconds into the second period.

San Jose swept the four-game season series from the Blues, outscoring them 11-2.

“That’s one of the best teams in the NHL,” Toivonen said. “We have to find a way to play like that and then maybe we’ll win games.”

(I would like to thank my brother Gino—he goes by the name Yoko Ducked as a BrooWaha Reader-for letting me use his tickets last night.)

Advertising: So Evil It's Good

By travelingseth, published on Mar 5, 2008

...Bill Hicks on my profile, but I hadn’t. Google, with access to my myspace info (and god knows what else), was able to divine that I might like Bill Hicks. Not bad. It’s funded a boom of really great internet sites and services that wouldn’t exist without advertising. BrooWaha, for instance, will display this article next to a google ad to help pay for bandwidth, and possibly turn a modest profit (the writers do work cheap :) It gives you a voice. Just by browsing your favorite sites you’re usually generating revenue for their creators via ad impressions. ... (more)

February's Featured Contributor - Pleasurepalate

By Digidave, published on Mar 1, 2008

Pleasurepalate has been part of Broowaha for a long time - and has focused her writing around one topic that she is obviosuly passionate about: Food. I caught up with her to ask a few questions about her passions and how Broowaha has been a platform for her food-writing.

How does where you live influence who/what you write about and how you go about reporting?

Where I live has absolutely everything to do with what I write. What people out of LA may not realize is that Los Angeles is truly a foodie town and has such a culinary diversity that it's absolutely amazing.... (more)

Call For Contributions: The Advertising In Our Streets

By Digidave, published on Feb 25, 2008

As you might recall one aspect of Broowaha I wanted to figure out when I came on board as editor was how we could work on collective stories. In time, I think this will help us get a larger picture of what makes our experiences unique in different cities around the world.

Our next call for contributions is around public advertisements. On your next commute to work, take a moment to look around you. What do you see? Have you noticed these advertisements before? Do they bother you? Do you agree with them? Are they paid advertisments or is it graffiti?

Then - sign into Broowaha... (more)
