Some years after the war when asked by a reporter how the Army could arrive at such casualty figures Murphy retorted, “I don’t know how they know. Maybe the War Department kept count somehow.... (more)

How Safe Are You In Manhattan?

By ranfuchs, published on Apr 29, 2012

Those who advocate that armed forces at every street corner increase the security and safety of the nation, must feel safe and secure when traveling through the city’s streets, malls and train stations. Special police units in blue uniform randomly search your bags; Army forces in desert camouflage, holding submachine guns, watch your every movement. DHS, metro police, HPD, TSA, helicopters hover above the city, can we ever feel any safer?

But how much do you trust these armed-to-the-teeth guys, or is it only a big Hollywood production? I am not talking about bad... (more)

Interview: Author James Mace

By Novel Noise, published on Aug 24, 2011

... was about twelve. My parents got me interested in Roman history around this time, and I was absorbing as much about that time period as I could. The campaigns are alluded to in the Masterpiece Theater series, I, Claudius, but never told in detail. Around the time I was sent to Iraq with the U.S. Army in 2004 I started to hand write some notes for a story about a legionary from this time period. I would be lying if I said my experiences in Iraq did not influence the story. That being said, I think it was from more of an emotional impact rather than based around any actual experiences I... (more)

“Anton, for goodness sake!” I protested.

He patted my shoulder with his transparent red-haired hand. “Come on, come on,” he said.

Oh well, I thought. I'm in the army, trained to kill people. What’s that with killing a frog? I took the stick, glanced around to make sure there was no one who’d be interested in our knapsacks, and followed Anton towards the pond.

The frog lay on the trail, just a step or two from the pond, between two small pools of... (more)

By MUGISHO N.THEOPHILE, published on Sep 28, 2010

Ten thousand copies of a book written by an American reserve soldier were set on fire. This burning was conducted by the American Department of Defense. The Department first bought these copies and later they were burnt. The army reveals that the book was entitled Operation Dark Heart.
