Raiders, Allen Ready to 'Rock and Roll' in 2014

By Jeff Weisinger, published on Jan 10, 2014

"We're ready to rock and roll."

Mark Davis' statement in a phone interview with ESPN.com Tuesday night confirming that Dennis Allen will not be fired and remain the team's head coach for a third season in 2014 could be the theme for the Silver and Black in 2014.

"We met this evening at the Raider facility, and the meeting went really well," Davis said to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. "We talked about a lot of things, from personnel issues to the coaches to a review of the past season to the draft and our needs for next season.

Although rumor had it that Davis would let go of Allen... (more)

The Battle for 1st in the AFC West

By robertanchor, published on Dec 13, 2011

It looks like the NFL has a battle going on in the AFC west, and it wont be over till the final week of the season. It’s been a tight race to the top of the division and it seems that neither of the teams are giving ground. A division that’s been somewhat predictable these past several years; suddenly has started to take on a new shape. The former AFL West franchises have been dominated primarily by the San Diego Chargers, who back in 1964 won the AFL Championship after a land slide victory over the then Boston Patriots. A team that once spent one season in Los Angeles was put in AFC WEST division... (more)

Respect

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 29, 2011

... though, of the 24 hour news cycle and Twitter, guilt is all in the perception. And the perception of Big Ben is that he is just another overpaid athlete who got away with crimes because of it.

On the field however, he is doing all the right things. Well, he was until the last half of the AFC Championship game when he played worse than the Bears backups and let the Jets put up 19 unanswered points. Until then though, he has played very well this season. He has come back from injury, broken noses, and fighting through the division to come out on top. He will now take one of the... (more)

AFC Championship Predictions

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 20, 2011

The AFC matchup this weekend is a rematch of the same two teams on December 19. On that day, the Jets came out on top 22 to 17. In that game, there were a lot of things that will have an effect in the upcoming game as well. I don't look for the same game, but I do look for a close final score.

The Jets are coming off a huge win over the Patriots. One in which they talked trash relentlessly in the lead up to the game. They took some new defensive schemes into the game and had the Patriots offense confused from the start. I look for them to do the same defensive things versus the... (more)

Who To Cheer For

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 17, 2011

Well, all of my teams are now out of the playoffs. After having absolutely outstanding seasons, two of the best in the NFL, the Falcons and Patriots are both eliminated on their first game of the playoffs. It was beyond disappointing to say the least. Now, I am left with 4 teams in the championship round and none of them are teams I want to cheer for.

The Packers are the team that put my Falcons out of the playoffs. I've never been a Packers fan as they are direct competition for my team. I admire Aaron Rogers and think he's one of the best QBs in the game. But I just can't see... (more)

Playoffs?! Playoffs?!

By Deborah Horton, published on Jan 4, 2011

The first weekend of the NFL playoffs gets underway on Saturday. The wildcard weekend with some wild matchups or at least unexpected ones. The reigning Super Bowl champ Saints have to play the first weekend and the perennial playoff team the Colts barely get in.

First up, the Colts vs Jets. The Colts barely get in and I think the Jets coach talked their way in. The Colts have suffered devastating losses due to injury this season. Every time you turned around another Colts player was out for the season. Peyton Manning has picked the team up and carried it for most of the season... (more)

Best Of The Best

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 28, 2010

I watch a lot of sports media coverage. It's a sickness really. It also gets on my nerves a lot, but yet I continue to watch. The NFL talking heads love to make their predictions on what team in the best and I thought I would give it a go with just a little more explanation.

In the AFC, there is no doubt which team is the best - by record. The Patriots are at 13 and 2 on the season. That makes them the best team by record. But like every other team in the league, the Patriots have their problems. The Patriots defense, which much improved from the start of the season, can still... (more)

Those Who Can't

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 15, 2010

There are the teams that can and do and then there are those who seemingly can't and don't. This NFL season has been one of surprise and unpredictability. There are a few teams who just can't seem to get it together, some despite a lot of hype and a lot of talent.

The New York Jets - They started out great. The sports media was all over them like white on rice claiming how great they were. They had plenty of bluster and they backed it up some of the time. Most of the time though, they got lucky with last minute wins and then they got plastered by the Patriots. They lost the next... (more)

Those Who Can Do

By Deborah Horton, published on Dec 13, 2010

There are some NFL teams that seem to be ahead of the curve this season and some who were hyped to be ahead of the game, but as time goes on we see they are just not all that. Those who can do and those who can't - don't make it to the playoffs.

The New England Patriots are far and away the best team in football. They have beaten several of the "so called" top teams. They were counted out when they started the season with their young defense. They were counted out when they traded away star receiver Randy Moss. The one thing that people never take into account is that you can never... (more)

NFL Games To Watch Week 9

By Deborah Horton, published on Nov 3, 2010

Two matchups this weekend that are going to be excellent – or at least they look like they will on paper. One is for dominance of both the NFC South and possibly the entire NFC and the other is a smash mouth fight for the AFC West.

In the NFC South, the Falcons are currently on top of the standings just above the Buccaneers by virtue of standings in the division with the Falcons at 1-0 and the Bucs at 1-1. The Bucs have been making a lot of noise about how they are the best team in the entire NFC, while the Falcons have just been going about their business….more under the radar. The... (more)
