As we celebrate Women's Day

By Chedvah, published on Mar 7, 2012

International Women’s day!! Is here again...It’s all about celebrating girl power, women’s success and their profound longevity and accomplishments in various circumstances.

This year I realised that celebrating ‘womanity’ and being a woman encompasses more than applauding the put together business woman, the savvy Mum who manages to do her day job and still keep her family adrift, the ambitious woman leader and the women’s lib. I respect and applaud all the women that represent these institutions and these dynamics. However I feel that I should lend some credit to... (more)

Empowered Women

By Uttam Gill, published on Mar 30, 2012

The woman who holds a dignified posture to carry on with her head high has to go through stressful and strangulating events of life. Many may borrow clichés to sustain the deafening assault of male chauvinism and if you ask the women you would get to know their harrowing tales.

Such women don’t shed tears over their miseries; rather they draw strength from them to build their lives with dignity, with grace or whatever they do to makes sense and move ahead. These women exist, they are real. They are not celebrity, they are ordinary women but with extraordinary resolve to cultivate... (more)

Women Don't Always Get Roses On Feb. 14th

By Paul Wylie, published on Feb 14, 2011

...receive today from their paramours around the country. Of course, nowadays, it's perfectly acceptable for a man to receive roses from a woman also. Some will be luckier than others, some will be all alone today, but despite that fact, they'll still be better off than millions upon millions of women the world over.

In Saudi Arabia today, they plan on hacking off a woman's head because they convicted her in a court of law, In A Court Of Law, of being a witch. This is not unusual for the Saudi nation. They routinely behead women for minor crimes, or even for daring to get themselves... (more)

Looking Beyond Physicality-International Women’s Day 2011

By Barkha Dhar, published on Mar 8, 2011

Women, for long have been a buffoon puppet of the media and entertainment. As a gratifying toy, women have mainly been recognized as an object of seeking pleasure by pulling their psychological and physiological strings. Women, more often have been recognized for their physicality and least for their inner beauty. The media portrayal of women today is nothing less than an active and passive eroticization that often leads to a desire for voluptuous figures and augmentations in young girls, an accession sadly not of their intellectual and emotional self, but more often of their physical self.... (more)

Dickie V and Digger Phelps to Judge 2011 NCAA Women's Diving

By SanityCheck2, published on Mar 14, 2011

Dick Vitale, Digger Phelps and Tony Kornheiser have been named judges for the 2011 NCAA Women’s Diving Championships to be held at the University of Texas, Thursday, March 17 through Saturday, March 19 of 2011. The announcement was made by a very disappointed and inconsolable Michael Wilbon at ESPN. The announcement of judges for the Women’s Diving Competition comes on the heels of possibly the worst performance by an NCAA Selection committee in the modern era of sports and many speculate it may be nothing more than an attempt to further deflect criticism by the NCAA. Most in the media actually... (more)

Why are Women "Lord of the Ring"

By charlie nitric, published on Jun 18, 2011

Life surely can be funny with the issues that arise between men and women whom are cohabitants of a household. Certainly there are vast differences between what men think is acceptable behavior and what women believe is correct. There are some dilemma’s that really irritate a woman’s butt because she believes her man or men in the house are not sensitive towards her concerns in this matter. I can speak for men around the world when I say, “Trust me. We all take pleasurable notice of your delicate behinds.” I can attest that I have sweated and regretted, I’ve huffed and been stuffed, I’ve gawked... (more)

Drive of the Women

By Anastasia , published on Jun 19, 2011

One hundred years ago Ethel Smyth wrote March of the Women, a song that became the anthem of the British suffragette movement. It’s a brave, bold song, with words that I find so moving, words that make me think of the struggle – and the suffering – of my predecessors in the onward march of justice for women;

Shout, shout, up with your song!Cry with the wind, for the dawn is break-ing;March, march, swing you a-long,Wide blows our ban-ner, and hope is wa-king.Song with its sto-ry, dreams with their glo-ryLo! they call, and... (more)

Women, Violence and Danger

By Barkha Dhar, published on Jun 24, 2011

A recent news item in the Reuters (factbox: The world's most dangerous countries for women), is a tumultuous testimony of the onslaught against women that still exists in many parts of the world. It is a lamenting yet noteworthy issue that despite a sociopolitical voyage for gender equality, women’s rueful plight remains a dreary discussion. Some of the countries that rank the highest in this predicament are Afghanistan, Congo, Pakistan, India, and Somalia. The brutality against women in these countries includes illiteracy and economic discrimination, forced marriages including child marriages,... (more)

An Unbiased Look @ Women in IT

By CareerSaver, published on Aug 22, 2011

Women make up half of the U.S. workforce but represent only 25% of the technology industry. According to the National Center for Women & IT, in 2009, only 25% of U.S IT professionals were women, compared to 36% in 1991. Just 18% of college degrees awarded in computer and information sciences in 2008 went to women, which is less than half compared to 1985. So the amount of women in technology actually appears to be decreasing over time, not increasing.

CareerSaver posed the question on LinkedIn, "Why aren't there more women in the IT industry?"

31% stated that... (more)
