In the NBA Less is More
...mode and are slowly developing a young core of players into a contending team. While that is great PR spin for the fans, the truth of the matter is Minnesota is a bad team that will continue to be a bad team for several years and the league would be better off without them.
The current NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement expires at the end of this season and rumors have been swirling that the owners and Commissioner David Stern are discussing disbanding teams in unsuccessful markets in order to help the league commercially and prevent a lock out.
Ironically Stern was the... (more)

NBA Season Is Upon Us, Cavs Fans Ready With Ear Plugs
For the first time in 7 years there is little hope of the playoffs, let alone the championship in Cleveland. The post-LeBron era begins with the 2010-11 NBA Season in Cleveland. Thankfully the local media has yet to cover the NBA season daily, possibly knowing that the fans are not ready yet for the wave of humiliation that is sure to come. For many fans this is the first time following the Cavs without LeBron, and for far many more, it's the first time following LeBron without the Cavs.
After reading more than a few national articles about the events that transpired this spring concerning... (more)

NBA Season So Far
So far the NBA season has played out pretty much as most people thought. The teams that people thought would be atop the standings are with very few surprises in the mix. Parity may be the name of the game in the NFL but in the NBA, there are the top teams and then there is everyone else.
In the Eastern Conference you have the Atlanta Hawks who were undefeated at 6-0 until Sunday night vs the Suns where they lost by 4 points. Then, there are the Boston Celtics at 6-1, Orlando Magic at 4-1, and the much hyped Miami Heat at 5-2. The Cleveland Cavaliers are next at 3-3 along with the... (more)

2007 NBA Draft: Lottery Logistics
The NBA's 2007 draft lottery occurred on May 22nd and determined the order of selection of the top 14 picks in the upcoming draft that will take place on Thursday, June 28th in New York City. This year's lottery was bound to be particularly impactful due to the depth and star potential of the 2007 draft class (brought about, in part, by the fact that the new draft eligibility age limit began to be imposed in 2006, effectively adding additional prospects to the 2007 draft). The consensus top two draft picks this year are highly coveted and likely superstar big men Greg Oden and Kevin Durant. As... (more)
NBA Free Agency Free-for-All
...agreed to a four-year deal worth 24 million dollars with the Toronto Raptors. For anyone who says that is too much for a white guy with a sick three point shot, I think Bryan Colangelo knows what he’s doing. Kapono used the time that Dwayne Wade was out this year to shine, and lead the NBA in three point shooting percentage. The Raptors young talented roster should be a perfect fit for the type of distance shooting he showed off last season. Rashard Lewis is reportedly on his way to Orlando for a fat maxed out, $75-million, contract. Playing alongside Dwight Howard, they form... (more)

How Will Tim Donaghy Investigation Effect The NBA?
What’s to happen to the image of the NBA now that Tim Donaghy is being investigated for fixing, and betting games, which he officiated in? This past week has been a dark one, and one that has brought more negatives than positives for the NBA and David Stern. It is hard to imagine that corruption has now not only leaked into the politics of this nation, but now into the sports we find so pure. It is hard to imagine how corruption now has not only leaked into the politics of this nation, but also now into the sports people once found pure. No matter where people seem to seek competitive enjoyment... (more)

Don't Get Crazy People
...appears top tier but it's really not. The Lakers and the Knicks. The Lakers are a top tier team but have struggled of late and the Heat got them on the down slide. The Knicks on the other hand look good, but their record shows that the teams they are winning against are at the bottom of the NBA barrel. The Heat have also beaten Phoenix a middle of the road team and you might can put the Warriors in that group too, but barely. The rest of their wins, against the dregs of the NBA at this point - Rockets, Bobcats, Bucks. It really doesn't say you're a great team if you're beating a... (more)

OKC fans pull for Dallas without knowing it?
For many, part of enjoying the weekend and turning your mind away from work is to turn on the tube to catch some great sports including the NBA semi finals.
However, to many watching the game or actually being in the crowd cheering for Oklahoma City or Dallas, it may have been confusing knowing who was supposed to be cheering for whom.
That's because the t-shirts worn by almost every fan at the game were blue.
But the color wasn't just any blue. From TV screens at local sports bars to homes all across the U.S., the blue t-shirts that read, "Thunder Pride" actually... (more)

Lester Rodney Helped Get Jackie in the Game
...face. No other papers would talk about the amazing fact that halfway through the 20th century in the land of the free, qualified and over-qualified baseball players couldn’t participate in our national pastime. And it was our national pastime back then much more than it is today. There was no NBA or NFL at the level it’s at today. There were no video games, no Internet, no cable TV. If the Dodgers were playing in Brooklyn and a truck pulled up next to you, it would be unthinkable to not hear Red Barber on the radio or people would find it peculiar. Baseball was huge back then. No other ... (more)

An Unthinkable Shooting Range
...a self-proclaimed prankster, and the stunt somehow started out - beyond all lengths of my imagination - as a joke. It should not matter that no one was physically injured, because what does matter is that this incident has inflicted harm extending far beyond an immediate bullet wound.
The NBA is often lauded for its global community outreach initiatives, most notably NBA Cares, whose mission is to address "important social issues such as education, youth and family development, and health and wellness." To accomplish this goal, star players actively raise money, visit schools to... (more)
